Hello,

I am pretty familiar now with the ADAU1701 and 176x series. I bought one of the many ADAU1452 boards on ebay produced by mediaworks.taobao.com. I expected to get a 1452 board but they ran out and sent me a 1466.

Expecting the 1466 board to be somewhat like the ADAU1701, I now found it is quite different and need some basic help. I'm sure others are using this inexpensive board and would like to get some pointers.

I started a project and was able to download it using SPI. I was shocked as getting USBi to work reliably with I2S has been difficult. I had to activate the SPIDF output as I don't see any DACs on the chip or board. I see several serial data outputs that I'm not familiar with and could use some info on how they are normally connected? My application is synthesizer design related so I am mostly just generating a mix of tones so I need first to get output. I was able to activate the SPIDF and it seems to be acting as it should. I plan to attach a crystal semi DAC to it to make sure but a basic program with a sine tone feeding the SPIDF loaded, runs and the SPIDF data looks right. I don't have a schematic for the board yet to see if the 3.44V peak to peak signal is being driven or coming directly from the chip.

So what is usually used to interface to the four serial ports? They seem to be running at the sample rate of f48K. Each port has an SDATA, BCLK and LRCLK line.

Those answers should get me going. I'll do more reading in the meantime.

Thanks.

Jerry

So I had success with the SPIDF output as I am able to drive my Crystal semi DAC and I found tons of chips, including the one I have, that take that format so I guess I'm off and running. It would be nice to have an outboard unit that had a stack of DAC ships all taking this format, sort of a breakout box just for this board. I can make one, of course.

Any other hints would be appreciated.

Jerry,

It is impossible for us to comment on a third party evaluation board. I would suggest you request the schematics if they are available. Our own evaluation board for this part has an AD1938 CODEC with 8 DACs and 4 ADCs.
