The user asked for clarification on the Watchdog function in the ADAU1467 datasheet, specifically why the largest watchdog maximum count (64 * 1024 = 65536) differs from the Watchdog Counter value (8191). The final answer explains that the maximum count is 65536, but the Watchdog Counter value is 8191, which is the maximum value that can be set in the WD_MAXCOUNT register. The user is directed to a detailed post on the EngineerZone forum for more information.

TomY Question

Hi,

I have a question about Watchdog function.

I am refering the following description of ADAU1467 datasheet, but I could not understand the following description.
"Using the largest prescale factor of 128 × 1024 and the largest watchdog maximum count of 64 × 1024, a very large watchdog counter, on the order of 8.5 billion clock cycles, can be achieved."

the largest prescale factor : 128 * 1024 = 131072
-> WD_PRESCALE = 0x000B (Increment every 131072 clock cycle)

This is make sense.

the largest watchdog maximum count : 64 * 1024 = 65536
-> WD_MAXCOUNT = 0x1FFF (8191 Watchdog Counter value)

Could you please explain why it become different value between 65526 and 8191?

Best regards, TomY

Hello TomY,

I finally had the time to research this issue and figure out how to use this feature of the DSP.

I detailed it in this post:
