Thread Summary

The user inquires about the differences between the ADAU1452 and ADAU1466, aside from memory. The ADAU1466 offers a slightly faster SPDIF and ASRC, with the ASRC not clipping at 0dBFS, though the difference is negligible. The EVAL-ADAU1467Z is the most capable for external interfacing among the mentioned evaluation boards.

In new project we think to use 1466 but its more expencive.

What new in 1466.(exept memory)?

Stability?

new functions?

The ‘52 and ‘66 are nearly identical except for memory. They are fully pin and code compatible. S/PDIF runs up to 192 kHz, but that’s about it. Note that the ‘63 and ‘67 are in larger packages with more I/O as well as more memory

Hello Alex,

As Ken said, the 1452 and the 1466 are nearly identical except for memory.

The SPDIF runs at a faster sample rate. The SPI and I2C also can run at a faster clock rate.

The ASRCs are slightly better on the 1466 but it would be really hard to notice the difference. The difference is that the 1452 ASRC will clip a little early. I think the number was 0.1dB early? Maybe even less. The 1466 will not clip with a 0dBFS signal applied. In my opinion, if the real-world audio signal is getting to 0.1dB then it is too close to clipping anyway and was probably already clipped when it was sampled. So this difference will not be audible at all. However, we fixed it since we were making the other changes.
