Hello Poncho,

If you're feeling a bit overwhelmed, that's normal. I had felt the same way along with countless others. Although there's no one book with graduated levels, you can progress from easy projects to more challenging ones, learning as you go.

First, start out with the Evaluation Board User Guide. Download and install SigmaStudio if you haven't already. Build the simple volume and EQ project described in the User Guide. Connect an audio source to the 1/8" stereo jack of the Evaluation Board, and headphones to the board's output jack. Link-Compile-Download the project, put audio through the board and play with the EQ controls in the SigmaStudio window. The rest of the User Guide describes the Evaluation Board features which you can refer to as needed.

As you experiment with SigmaStudio, allow your desired application to guide you. For example, if you wish to make an active crossover, a compressor, whatever -- build a simple project with those blocks. Here the SigmaStudio Documentation Wiki is your friend -- it's the closes thing we have to the graduated book you're asking about. Here you'll find helpful sections such as Getting Started, Using SigmaStudio, and the Toolbox block help.

You can build and experiment with many interesting applications without knowing anything more about the actual hardware (the ADAU1701 and its support components on your Evaluation Board) and the nuts-and-bolts math which powers SigmaStudio's function blocks. As you move on toward external runtime control of your project by pressing buttons or turning the pot, you'll need to know some deeper topics. The first of these is the integer and decimal number formats used inside SigmaDSPs. As you explore external control, you'll need the rest of the Users Guide. And if you wish to build your own hardware boards and control via a microcontroller, you'll need the ADAU1701 data sheet. And you'll become an expert!

Best regards,

Bob

Great answer Bob!

Poncho,

If by any chance you are going to attend the Audio Engineering Society convention in New York City this October, I will be there giving some demonstrations and one of the eval boards I will be using is the ADAU1701. We do have a few videos on our website but you should go to YouTube and search for "SigmaDSP ADAU1701" and lots of videos will come up. Most are not official ADI videos but it should prove helpful.
