Thread Summary

The user seeks advice on driving an auxADC with a microcontroller's DAC to control a 5-way MUX. The support engineer provided a project example for the EVAL-ADAU1452RevBZ board, demonstrating how to use the AUX ADC output to evenly select between 5 elements in a table, which is then used to control the MUX. The solution involves shifting the AUX ADC output to an 8.24 format and multiplying it by the number of elements to achieve an even distribution.

Hi there,

I have a project where I'd like to drive an auxadc with a microcontroller's DAC (DC outputs to select).

Is there any good example covering the signal conditioning for readback and control of the mux? I've read there are a few limitations to consider when using the ADAU1701. Ideally the auxadc will be driven to control a 5 way mux.

Thanks for any advice / assistance

Best Regards,

WC

Hello WC,

I will attach a project that uses an externally controlled MUX. It is designed for the newer EVAL-ADAU1452RevBZ board that has two AUXADC pots on the eval board. It is a kind of a cool project that demos different ways to do spatial widening.

The MUX in this project switches between five selections. The output of the AUX ADC is shifted to product a signal between 1 and zero in 8.24 format. Note that it will never reach 1.0. Only 0.99...

So you multiply this by the number of elements in your table. In this case it is five elements. So it will select from 0 to 4 as the five elements.

Send that to the table that has elements numbered 0-4. Set the table to integer output and you will get the unsigned integer output required of the MUX. Doing this will give you an even division of the numbers along the travel of the pot. There are other ways to do this but this easily produces this even distribution.

In your text you mentioned the 1701 but in the title you mentioned the 1452. So I am guessing you are asking about the 1452?

Hi Dave,

Thanks so much for uploading this. Definitely using the 1452 for this project, I should have stated it a bit clearer.

Best regards,
