Dear ADI

When I pressed the READ button in the READBACK block I can´t see the register address even the value read in the capture window.

The project was compiled and saved .

Could You please explain me what is wrong?

Hello prudensio,

I usually put into all my projects a DC cell and a Readback similar to what you did. The purpose is to test the communication with the DSP. To see if it is alive and if SigmaStudio can communicate with it. The DC cell is set to 5.23 format and has a "2" as its value so when you click on Read you should see the traffic on the DSP.

When you said the project was compiled and saved. Did you click on Link/Compile/Download? Because simply compiling the project without downloading it to the DSP will not work.

So if you did that, and I assume you did. Then you are not communicating with the DSP.

Are you using I2C or SPI?

Are you using your own PCB or the evaluation board? If you are using an evaluation board then which one?

Is the board powered up? ( I have done that many times, the DSP is not responding because the eval board has no power! )

There is another issue where the readback seems to return all zeros but I do not think you are running into this. It is when you have the DC cell sending out a number in 28.0 format and the number is less than 16. The Readback in this part is only 24 bits. So the bottom four bits are truncated when reading the 28 bit number in the core. To work around this you have to multiply by 4 twice to shift over the bottom four bits so you can see them with a readback. This does not seem to be the problem you are having right now.

Hi Mr.Thib

Thank you for your prompt reply.

I used as reference the article #Monitoring average and instantaneous signal levels by BrettG.

{In order to implement a readback in a microcontroller in your production system,
click the "Read" button on the readback cell in SigmaStudio after compilation.
A write/read sequence will be shown in the Capture window.
Simply duplicate this write/read sequence in the system microcontroller in
order to implement readback in a production system.}

but in my case, I wasn´t online with ADAU1701.

I found the following addresses in the xx _IC_1_PARAM.h to attemp to stablish communication bettween uC and DSP.

/* Module ReadBack1 - DSP Readback*/
#define MOD_READBACK1_COUNT 2
#define MOD_READBACK1_DEVICE "IC1"
#define MOD_READBACK1_ALG0_VAL0_ADDR 2074
#define MOD_READBACK1_ALG0_VAL0_VALUES SIGMASTUDIOTYPE_SPECIAL(0x027E)
#define MOD_READBACK1_ALG0_VAL0_TYPE SIGMASTUDIOTYPE_SPECIAL
#define MOD_READBACK1_ALG0_VAL0_READBACK_ADDR 0
#define MOD_READBACK1_ALG0_VAL1_ADDR 2074
#define MOD_READBACK1_ALG0_VAL1_VALUE SIGMASTUDIOTYPE_5_19_CONVERT(0)
#define MOD_READBACK1_ALG0_VAL1_TYPE SIGMASTUDIOTYPE_5_19

Are you using I2C or SPI? Answer: I2C

Are you using your own PCB or the evaluation board? If you are using an evaluation board then which one?

A:My own PCB

Below my new design according your orientations.

In summary, Will I only see the addresses in the capture window if DSP is online with Sigma Studio?

Above My real application project were I need to readback the crossover output and monitoring the signal output level with 3 READBACKS BLOCKS.

Am I in the right direction?

Thanks a lot, best regards

Hello prudencio,

Read this post. I think this will answer most of your questions. I can expand on it later. My time is kind of tight today.

https://ez.analog.com/dsp/sigmadsp/f/q-a/103324/adau1701-low-instruction-level-detection-readback/307477#307477

Basically, I am suggesting you place a meter into your project. Then you can see the levels when you are using SigmaStudio and then you can have the controller read the meter parameters in a similar way SigmaStudio does.
