Can the ADAU 1701 be used to multiply two audio waveforms in real time and output the product result?

I'd like to multiply one audio waveform by another (product) and output the result (e.g. modulate). Can this be done? Frequency range feasible? What about square wave modulation of a relatively high frequency audio signal by a relatively low frequency (e.g. < 100Hz)? Is there a way it can be used to multiply a video by an audio signal? (e.g. intentional flicker at a given rate).

Thanks in advance for your response.

Hello,

It can do everything except the video. SigmaDSPs generally run at a sample rate of 48 / 96 / 192 KHz, while handling signals of frequency approaching half these sample rates. Thus the 48 K sample rate handles the audio spectrum, while higher sample rates venture towards the ultrasonic. Operation is close to real-time, with the output(s) delayed by 1.07 mS from the inputs at the base 48 K sample rate (less delay at higher sample rates). Folks have done some interesting things with the ADAU1701 beyond audio EQ, such as:

An ultrasonic assist device for the blind

A FM Stereo demodulator

Both these projects involve multiplying and filtering signals as high as 70 KHz at a 192 K sample rate.

Best regards,

Bob
