Using Sigma Studio to debug an inherited design. Starting with 'cannot connect/download, and what does the red led indicate? '

Probably need to read the manual, typical last resort option. But, I had made connection and linked/downloaded in the past ( about a year ago ) but today I am stuck with trying to connect. So how is ths done and what does the RED LED indicate?

And, where is the manual?

O.K. so I am quite distracted but the current quarantine has me doing more than can be reasonably done, so a little patience is appreciated.

Working with ADAU 1442

Thank you.

Well, in part I have answered my own question: seems the design I inherited has the I2C buss as a common buss that the Sigma pod cannot over-ride. So i need to modify a circuit board to isolate the I2S.

Hello Jaye,

I assume at the end of your last sentence you meant to type I2C instead of I2S?

Now is a great time to isolate yourself with some PCBs and SigmaStudio and work on things! It is a thing that most engineers are quite accustom to! "Honey, just slide dinner under the door!,... I am in the middle of a design!" LOL

It is common for most designs to use I2C instead of SPI for our older processors that did not have as much RAM and registers that the newer ones have. Plus, the extra handshaking ( with gloves on) of I2C is good for confidence of the data transfer.

There have been some issues with the I2C of the USBi locking up and latching the bus so that no other devices can communicate. The USBi does not work in a multi-master environment so if there is a system controller then it needs to stop using the I2C bus while the USBi is using it. Also, the USBi has to wait for the part to boot up if it is set to selfboot. So there are a few things to look out for.

Another detail is to not have too many continuous readbacks enabled. This would be any Readback cells but also any meters. Do not enable too many meters because it will be too much traffic for the I2C and the USBi.

So what I2C are you thinking of isolating? Isolating from what?
