I'm running SigmaStudio v4.5 on a design in the ADAU1452. I suspect I am running out of resources, but SigmaStudio does not seem to give me any warning or error message that I have exceeded the available resources (instruction cycles) of the part. I can look at the % resources used in the compiler output, but it seems the design starts to fail slightly before I reach 100%.

As a test, I added extra modules until the resoruces were at 132% and the compiler gave no errors.

How does one know precisely when the part is full?

Hello barockteer,

This post explains how to use the overrun monitor that gives you some information.

I hope to have a better way in the future but it is not developed yet.

Yes, the compiler really should report the MIPS usage over 100% but it does not. It does report the memory usage above 100%. The reason is that the number of MIPS can be different based on the clocking setup on the DSP. Plus, it depends on the clocks used to drive the DSP. Then some of the programming will have loops that the compiler has no idea how many times the code will loop so the MIPS usage is an estimate. So I guess the programmers figured it was up to you to see the MIPS usage.

The overrun monitor will tell you if it overran. The remaining MIPS is still an estimate but it is better than nothing.
