ADAU146x manual setting of S/PDIF auxiliary bits
Hi,
I was looking into the S/PDIF auxiliary bits.
According to the datasheet page 174 the parity, user, validity and status bits can be set manually if I set AUXBITS_SOURCE to register map (0x0).
What does this mean if I connect 2 ADAU146x with S/PDIF?
Testing a loop-back on the evaluation board it seems that at least the parity bits are not manually settable.
Has the setting of the validity and status bits any direct influence on the audio decoding of the ADAU146x S/PDIF receiver or are the bits only meant for microcontroller information?
Thanks for any help

Hello Christian,
It does not seem like you should be able to manually set the parity bits on the transmit side. I would have to investigate this a little further.
The bits are only for the microcontroller in a system. It does not affect the audio encoding at all. The only significance has to do with the validity bits. If it is set to "invalid" then some receivers will mute the audio if the receiver is set to react to this bit. Many receivers ignore it but some do not.

Hi Dave,
I'd like to connect 2 ADAU146x chips.
It seems to me that this receiver does not react (mute audio etc) to any of the validity or channel status bits.

Christian
