Combining ADAU1452 and ADAU1701
Hi,
I'm planning a board which shall be suitable both for small EQ-applications and applications with larger delay algorithms. Since the ADAU1701 is not really much more expensive than most codecs and at the same time capable of adding additional processing power, I was considering using both ADAU1701 and ADAU1452 in combination using I2S (and a uC for control) on one board and just don't place the ADAU1452 for smaller applications. Lower dynamic range that comes with the ADAU compared to higher quality codecs is not a problem for me. Since I'm planning to start my layout soon I was looking for opinions if that could be implemented or if there's problems I'm not seeing at the moment.
Also: I was wondering if it is possible to talk to some AD guys for schematic and layout reviews before ordering the boards? I know that was possible in the past with Linear Technology products.
Best Regards
MM

Hello Mowbot,
Yes, you can certainly use several of these parts at the same time. The parts have different I2C addresses so it is no problem sharing the same I2C bus. If you have multiple parts that are exactly the same then you can set them up for different addresses using the address pins. This will give you the ability for addressing up to four of the same exact part and if you mix so different parts like the 1701 with the 1452 then you can get eight parts on one board. To get more you would have to use I2C repeaters to control which parts you are talking to at any moment.
Then SigmaStudio also can address multiple DSPs within the same project. If you use one ADAU1452 and one ADAU1701 then you can set it up all in one project and have control of the parts from SigmaStudio.
Yes, you can send over your schematics and layouts for review. It is somewhat dependent on my work load as to how fast I can get to it but I do review designs often. Some of them are done on the forum.
