I am using the BF706 EZ KIT mini at the moment, I havent done embedded stuff in a really long time and don't know much about what will work.

I want to add a display and a lot of buttons.

I was thinking for the buttons using a PC keyboard might be easiest, and I could interface via USB but I will probably want to use the DSP as a USB device for attaching to PC. So I could use PS2 and somehow add that to a GPIO pin but i am not sure what it would involve.

The board says it has TWI SPI EPPI and GPIO . Can I turn and GPIO into a SPI ??

Or should I make my own keyboard using buttons and something like this MCP23017 ?

As for displays, the board has EPPI that is for displays but how do I work out what displays are compatible with that ?

I have also seen SPI OLED displays but I am not sure how many SPI devices I can use. The board manual is pretty vague about what is specifically possible.

Hi,

Sorry for the delayed response.

1) Regarding, "I was thinking for the buttons using a PC keyboard might be easiest, and I could interface via USB but I will probably want to use the DSP as a USB device for attaching to PC. So I could use PS2 and somehow add that to a GPIO pin but i am not sure what it would involve."
>> Can you try with UART instead of using GPIO pins to interface with PS2 or USB keyboard interface?

2) Regarding, "The board says it has TWI SPI EPPI and GPIO. Can I turn and GPIO into a SPI ?"
>> Please note that the BF70x has three SPI interface. Are you going to use more than three SPI interface?

3) Regarding,"should I make my own keyboard using buttons and something like this MCP23017 ?"
>> The BF706 has 43 GPIO pins. What is the need of using MCP23017? Are you going to use all the GPIO pins?

Please download and install the BSP (Board support package) for ADSP-BF707 in the given below link. Once you installed you can find example code in the below path. You can refer this code to develop application code for ADSP-BF707.
BSP link: download.analog.com/tools/EZBoards/BF707/Releases/Release_1.0.0/ADI_ADSP-BF707_EZ-Board-Rel1.0.0.exe

Uart example code UART Driver and C code is available in the below installation paths of ADSP-BF-707 BSP
"Installation path"\ADSP-BF707_EZ-Board-Rel1.0.1\BF707_EZ-Board\Blackfin\Examples
