First SHARC Processor
Hi, I've been meaning to get into Audio DSP for a while now and I found out that SHARC Processors are used in many audio related gear which I like. I have already had some experience with micro controllers.
Could you kindly recommend a good processor/dev board to start with and possibly a related audio DSP tutorial which could get me started? I am mainly into guitar pedals DSP just in case there are some related topics.
Thanks a lot in advance,
Luke

Hi,
First of all thanks a lot for your quick and prompt reply. I really appreciate that.
As regards its development board should I go with the EVAL-21479-EZLITE for example or others such as the EVAL-BFSHUSB-EZEXT as found on the ADSP-21479 product page.
Also, could you recommend a good source or way of how to start programming SHARC Processors?
Thanks a lot once again,
Regards,
Luke
Welcome to SHARC world!
Since you specifically mention guitar pedals, I would suggest starting with the ADSP-21479.
This is a 4th generation DSP that has the benefit that it operates at low power. This means you could use a 9V battery with appropriate power supply.
It is also very powerful from a stomp box perspective.
You should avoid earlier SHARCs given that you are not supporting a legacy design. Code developed on any SHARC is fairly easy to migrate to another. The new 5th generation parts are very powerful, but more difficult to program.

You want the 21479 EZ KIT.
They have some simple examples. You can also look at lots of ap notes. SHARC code hasn't changed much.
Don't be afraid of the assembly language either. Its very C like and easy to learn. C/C++ is also available of course.

Hello Luke,
You would refer the ADSP-214xx hardware reference manual contains information about the peripherals associated with ADSP-214xx processor.
SHARC Processor Programming Reference provides architectural and pro-gramming information about the SHARC SIMD 5-stage pipeline processors
We have Processors Software and Tools page provides a convenient look-up table to indicate to users what evaluation platforms, extender cards, emulators, software development tools, and middleware are available for the specific processors you have chosen to evaluate for your designs.

There are few example codes available in the ADSP-21479 Board Support Package (BSP) which can be referred for better understanding of SHARC program flow. You would download the BSP via:
Once you download and install the BSP the sample codes it can be found in the below path

Excuse me for my late reply, but thanks a lot for your answer. I have used assembly language with other processors so that might be an option too.
I will look into the 21479 EZ KIT then!
Thanks,

Luke
