ADSP21489 100 lead package SPI boot?
hi,
I'm evaluating the processor
ADSP-21489 . 100 lead package.
I want to know if it supports booting from serial SPI flash memory, the one like M25Pxx.
the datasheet indicate that there is 2 booting mode, Master SPI and Slave. which a bit confusing.
also the default slave select PIN, is it the FLAG0 pin which is lead number 77 or the DPI-P05 lead number 23.(always 100 lead package).
thanks a lot.

thanks a lot,
we are planning to program the spi flash, then the DSP boot from the flash. this will be perfect solution for us.
agian this is for the 100 lead package, that have only 2 pins for boot configuration, Bootcfg0 and Bootcfg1 .
cause the package with 176 lead has 3 pin for the boot configuration.
finally in the CCES option, shall we use SPI flash or SPI Master for the boot mode in the loader general option?
thanks a lot for the information.
The ADSP-21489 can be booted from a SPI Flash. The SS# line is DPI 5 (Pin 23). MOSI (SI on flash) is DPI 1 (Pin 19). MISO (SO on flash) is DPI 2 (Pin 20) and SCK is DPI 3 (Pin 21)
Pull Bootcfg0 high and Bootcfg1 low. This configures boot mode to SPI Master. SPI Master means that the DSP is the SPI master. SPI slave would be used if you were loading from an external processor that was acting as the master.
If you are planning to program via JTAG, review which SPI devices are supported by the CCES or VDSP programming utility.assuming you do not want to write your own.

Hello,
Please choose the loader option as SPI flash for booting from the SPI flash. This should help to boot from SPI flash. The system design chapter of the HRM and the loader manual provides more details on this option.

hi,
thanks a lot,
but in the hardware reference they mention the following:
The read opcode is fixed as 0xC0 (LSBF format) and is 8 bits long. The 8-bits that are received following the read opcode should be programmed to 0xA5. If the 8-bits are different from 0xA5 the master boot transfer is aborted. The transfer continues until 384 x 32-bit words have been transferred which may correspond to the loader program (just as in the slave boot mode). The loader tool automatically includes the SPI master header information (0xA5).
my understanding is if the SPI Master boot mode is chosen, then the loader binary file should start with (0xA5), this can be done only when choosing the SPI Master mode, I could easily see it in the loader file.
any explanations please.?!.
thanks a lot.
best regards.
hi,
yes choosing the option SPI flash is the correct one, the processor manage to read the loader from the flash, and boot up perfectly.
thanks a lot.
best regards.
Hello,
Note that SPORT signals cannot be routed to DPI, it works only with DAI pins. See the image given below.

hi,
just to be 100% sure, in the ADSP21489, is it possible to rout the SPORT to the DPI pin?
or it works only with DAI Pins?
thank you so much.
thanks a lot.
