ADSP 21489 JTAG Connector Debug Agent
Hej all,
I am creating my own board with the ADSP-21489 with 176 Pins.
I have the EZ Kit with Stand Alone Debug Agent.
On the board are two connectors JTAG P1 and ZP1. For the P1 I know the connections to the DSP from the schematic. But the ZP1 is not included in the schematic. How are the pins of ZP1 connected to the DSP?
I measured the following:
1 5 V supply
2 5 V supply
3 NC (?)
4 3.3 V supply
5 NC (?)
6 Reset
7 NC (?)
8 DA Soft Reset
9 -14 GND
Is this correct?
Second:
In the EE-68 document Pin 1 is connected to GND but on the EZ Kit its 5V.
So I also have to route Pin 1 to 5V?
Thanks!
Waleri

Sorry for the delay in response.
The standalone debug agent (SADA) is a proprietary design developed by ADI to specifically debug the target processor . As such, there is proprietary knowledge of the ADI processor required to make that interface possible, which is not something that would be shared with any customer, large or small.
Regarding second query, please follow the JTAG reference in EE-68 and have Pin 1 to GND.
This pin 1 is used to choose between the Emulator and the standalone debug agent that can be used with the ADSP-21489 Ez-board. Pin 1 is required to be grounded when connecting to the emulator as per EE-68. But ADSP-21489 EZ kit also provides a standalone Debug Agent, which requires this pin to be logic high.
So for custom designs that only use the emulator, please follow EE-68 and ground the pin 1.

There are a few things that Jithul didn't mention. EZ Kits and licenced third party boards also have security keys. Even if you reversed engineered the ZP1 connections on your target, the debug agent will not work.
The ICE-1000 works about same as the debug agent and supports any ADI DSP target. It is very inexpensive. Your target should certainly have the JTAG connection available. You can use the larger 0.100 spaced header or the smaller 50 mil connector. If you use the small connector, make sure the ICE-1000 will have enough clearance with your board. You can also use the Danville 2mm header scheme to reduce space. We sell adapters.
We also sell DSP modules including versions for the 21489 that might make sense for your application.
