SC589 -- SHARC to SHARC Audio when trying to impliment EE377
Hi,
I am upgrading my senior level university course from ADSP-21469 to the dual core SC589 eval boards. Everything needs to be in place by Jan 12, 2017 or I can't afford to switch this year
I started to use the examples that came with cross-core -- looking for an audio talk through program that works with both 589 SHARC cores. However there is the three core example where 1 SHARC talks to the ARM core, but not SHARC to SHARC talk. Also I found an audio talkthrough program (which I got to work) but that was only one core.
I thought I had died and gone to heaven when I trolled an found EE377.pdf -- I can really make use of some of the material when I teach my course.
I also found a link to EE377v01.zip on one ez page --
BUT
I unzip, activate CrossCore 2.3.0 in the new workspace. I get the message -- old format of the project. I would really like to see these projects kept up to-date. Nice first month job for a new university intern hire -- :-)
Any way -- I click convert to new format -- total crash of the system -- CCES 2.3.0 exits with big log file. I reactivate CCES 2.3.0 but it just shuts down with -- go look at error log messages
The error logs indicate some problems back in June 02, 2016
!ENTRY org.eclipse.core.resources 4 567 2015-06-02 23:01:00.902
!MESSAGE Workspace restored, but some problems occurred.
!SUBENTRY 1 org.eclipse.core.resources 4 567 2015-06-02 23:01:00.902
!MESSAGE Could not read metadata for 'RemoteSystemsTempFiles'.
!STACK 1
org.eclipse.core.internal.resources.ResourceException: The project description file (.project) for 'RemoteSystemsTempFiles' is missing. This file contains important information about the project. The project will not function properly until this file is restored.
Then some more June issues and then messages about my session
I deleted the workspace and tried again -- similar issues.
So I tried plan C
I made a new directory -- copied files into it -- deleted the .metadata and imported the 3 projects.
Now I get large number of error messages about missing drivers
Went back and applied anti-Murphy Law Rule -- 3rd time lucky
!ENTRY org.eclipse.osgi 4 0 2016-10-30 09:39:50.716
!MESSAGE Application error
!STACK 1
Caused by: org.eclipse.core.internal.dtree.ObjectNotFoundException: Tree element '/RemoteSystemsTempFiles/.project' not found.
This time, I checked the directory structure this time -- I can find .project
So Plan D -- I opened not the workspace MulticoreTalk with its meta file and Temp files, but the workspace above EE377 with its temp file directory
That opens -- but no projects are shown -- so I import those from the lower directory and get the message

Would appreciate some help

Turns out that Plan D was the way to go
Upper directory .metafile and .project and not lower directory
The missing driver and other issues can be solved as follows
1) I went into the preprocessor include directives and modified that to point at the latest SC589 2.0.0 Release include
2) Opened core1 .system.svc and ldf -- big red information about click update -- did so
3) Opened core2 .system.svc and ldf -- big red information about click update -- did so
4) Did clean and rebuild all -- CrossCore seemed to think about it alot and then appeared to build
Next hour (Hopefully) -- Read the next exciting episode where the intrepid University professor saddles up his trusted iPod (original) audio source, attaches his noise cancelling earphones (that don't even do a talk-through if the battery is dead) and hits Y in DEBUG windows
Episode 2
and plug in ICE1000; and plug in power cord and check that cord not loose in power brick
Looks promising -- complains about loading silicon 0.0 into 1.0 on sharc cores -- ignore that for the moment
Now at Core 0 main -- hit go --
ditto core 1 prompt -- hit go
get console messages -- about MCAPI
FIY -- neat user manual (2 page pdf) on The multi-core association website
core 2 -- no window pop-up prompt but will activate manually
Get entering superloop message
Heard a click on my ear-phones (promising) but nothing else --play around with jack positions
Try again as version 1.0 silicon
Question -- Since the 3 cores are all the same silicon -- if it reasonable to ask if can we get the change of silicon version on one of the cores to propagate through the other 589 cores in next cross-core release?
Same issue -- Hear an earphone click -- nothing else
Go back to an earlier ADC-DAC-Playback project one core that worked to check audio set up
That's okay
Back to the drawing board and reading the instructions :-)
Follow through on EE377 instructions
Can follow through on steps 1 and 2 on Fig. 16 (Fig 6)
The multicore resume icon (Figure 17 Step3) is still greyed out (actually Fig 7
Core 0 paused at start of main -- so I activate it manually
and then deactivate it using multi-core pause Figure 18 step 4 (Fig 8)
This time the multi-core start icon is not greyed out (Figure 19 step 5) (Fig 9) so I activate
Hear same click in earphones
Compare printfs on console window in EE377 Figure 10 with what I have
Fig 10 says
Core 2 enter superloop
Core 1 enter superloop
Core 2 DAC started
I get -- Core1: Entering superloop but core 2 never says "enter superloop"
CHecked code -- printf is not there
Added breakpoint in core 2 code -- it is inside superloop
but I am hearing no sound
Hi Mike,
I'm going down this road myself and am a bit farther than you.
There is an EE377v02. I'd point you to it but at the moment I am having trouble finding the link to download it. But in it, this line is commented out in MultiCoreTalkThruSharcSharc_Core2.c.
// fprintf(stdout, "Core2: DAC Started\n" ); // EMG - 071116 - Removed to avoid sync issues
Try removing that and see if you get sound.
Debora
I've also seen issues importing projects and CCES doing odd things. My experience somewhat matches what you saw, though I'm on 2.4.0 now. See ADI's reply here: CCES 2.4.0 can't open ADI EE377v2 cleanly (I created a new empty workspace, I did the import, etc. I "solved" it by exiting CCES, restarting, switching workspaces, and switching back. I also tried from scratch again and while I didn't get the same errors, CCES was not happy until I quit/restarted again).
YMMV
Hi
This is a different problem than with EE377v01.zip
There there was a EE377V01 directory and a .metafile and a Multicore directory with a metafile
Opening the lower directory as a workspace got the "old format" message followed by a crash
Opening the upper directory as a workspace -- got a nice build -- but no audio
Unzippong v02 gives a V02 directory with no meta file plus Multicore with a metafile which crashes CCES 2.3.0 with bad format message
I was going back to V01 and try Debras fix however, when in doubt apply -- what is the American expression "full speed ahead and **** the torpedoes!
I went back -- to the upper directory and imported the lower workspace into thethe upper directory
That gave me an update plugin request on SHARC1 and SHARC2 -- I am using the newer SC589 example file
That cleared error flags in the imported workspace
I got a build and download and a run
and music :-) :-) :-)
In case you guys are interested
I have a testing framework build around a hardware oriented version of SourceForge UnitLite++ and a small time triggered co-operative operating system. I use the testing framework for testing my Audio programs -- especially after I upgrade the ASM for speed -- And the uTTCOS - is very nice for demoing a variety of audio effects
I have the above running on Blackfin BF533 and BF561 -- SHarc 21469 and a number of TI and ARM boards
Thanks -- as you can see -- I had to pull a few tricks with V02 but I got the code running
With current specs: Board 1.2 , Bom 1.8, CCES 2.5.1, ADI_ADSP-SC5xx_EZ-KIT_Lite-Rel2.0.1
I manage to compile and run, but only hear click on the audio output and nothing else. Can someone share a tested source?
Can I try it?
