ADAU1452: Init Selfboot by MCU
Hi,
I have the following situation: I have an ADAU1452 fully booted from an EEPROM in self boot mode. Now after a while I want my MCU to send a command to the ADAU1452 DSP that inits a new self boot. After receiving this command from then MCU by I2C the ADAU1452 should load the program from the EEPROM again.
Is there a way to do that? I thought about writing to the SOFT_RESET register but the data sheet is not clear here wether the program is read again from EEPROM or not. It only says that all control registers are reset.
My MCU can not access the hardware reset pin of the ADAU1452, I have to do it via I2C.
Any ideas?

Hello,
SOFT_RESET does reload the program from EEPROM, assuming the SELFBOOT pin on the DSP is tied to logic high.
The differences between SOFT_RESET and the /RESET pin are minor. The /RESET pin will reset all the slave control port to I2C mode, and reinitialize the PLL and watchdog registers. SOFT_RESET holds the current mode of the I2C mode, PLL registers, and watchdog registers. This is done so that a MCU using SPI will not lose its connection to the DSP.
Please keep in mind a few things as you work on your project:
1. After toggling SOFT_RESET, the DSP should be allowed enough time to complete self boot before the MCU interacts again with the DSP.
2. The contents of PM, DM0, and DM1 are not cleared during a hardware /RESET or a SOFT_RESET. There is a framework option if you need to zero out the contents during selfboot, it is disabled by default:

Joshua
