Hello all,

I'm looking into the possibility of teaching myself how to build a control unit for a quadcopter, multirotor but I'm lost in the multitude of choices available from Analog Devices.

In the simplified version I'd like to hook together a Proc/DSP with an IMU and write some code to control a bunch of ESCs with brushless motors.

I was looking into SDP-S for a proc/dsp and connect it with the sensor but I don't know if I can use my own code with that board.

I'd appreciate if somebody could point me into the right direction and please excuse/ignore my post if this isn't the place for such a question.

cheers

calin

As you indicated when you said you were overwhelmed with the choices available, this application that you describe spans multiple product lines across Analog Devices, and this forum is only suitable for a small subset of it. There are no processors with a built-in IMU, as that technology would come from the MEMS group (gyroscopes, accelerometers, etc.), which has its own forum:

MEMS Inertial Sensors

Numerous processors are capable of interfacing to these products, so your limiting requirement would be the ESC interfacing that you mentioned (assuming you mean Electronic Speed Control). Analog Devices has processors with dedicated 3-phase PWM output capabilities for motor-control (ADSP-BF60x, ADSP-50x, ADSP-BF51x), so you could check those out.

As for using the SDP-S platform to evaluate things, that board is not supported in this forum. As it was designed to support Circuits from the Lab, I believe the best forum to post specific inquiries to would be:

Reference Circuits
