Hi,

I have an AD9629-40EZ evaluation board and I would like to implement DSP on the output by using the ADSP-BF526 EZ-KIT lite. The ADC will sample at MHz. Could the Expansion Interface II on the ADSP-BF526 EZ-kit provide the interface for this? or will I need to use a some sort of custom design daughter board to implement the my ADC?

Hope you can help.

Kind regards,

Les.

Hi Les,

I do not have much experience with this myself but there's an Application Notes that may help you as it describes how to use the PPI of the BF533/BF561 to interface with the AD6652 which perhaps may be of use to you. The application note is called: AN-813 - Interfacing the ADSP-BF533/ADSP-BF561 Blackfin Processors to High Speed Parallel ADCs, which is available here: www.analog.com/processors/tools/ee-notes

I hope this helps.

Thanks,

Colin.

Hi Colin,

Thanks for your feedback. I also came across* EE-236 - Real-Time Solutions

Using Mixed-Signal Front-End Devices with the Blackfin Processor

refers to a Blackfin

EZ-Extender board

<http://www.analog.com/en/evaluation/bf-extender/eb.html>that can be

used as an interface between an ADC evaluation board and a

BF533/561 EZ-KIT. Do you know if it is possible for the EZ-Extender board

to interface between the AD9629-40EB and BF526 EZ-KIT? or is there other

boards like some sort of interposer board that can implement this?

Kindest regards,

Les.

Hi Les,

While the Blackfin EZ-Extender uses the same Expansion Interface type (Type B), the pins exposed on the expansion interface for the BF526 EZ-KIT Lite differ from the BF533/BF561 EZ-KIT Lites.

While a similar design could be used, we do not have a similar interposer board for the BF526 EZ-KIT Lite unfortunately. The schematics in the BF526 EZ-KIT Lite Evaluation System Manual detail the signals exposed on each pin of the expansion interface, which would help you determine which pin of the BF526 Expansion Interface to attach to the AD9629 board.

Craig

Hi Craig,

Thanks for your support. Could I just use wire to connect the Data bus and the SPI bus on the AD9629 evaluation board to the dedicated pins on the BF526 EZ-KIT expansion interface? or would you suggest building a custom board to interface the AD9629 eval board and BF526 EZ-KIT?

Kind regards,

Les.

Hi Les,

I see that you also contacted private support regarding this issue, also. As they advised: wiring a connection is not advisable for high data rates, so designing an interposer board would be our recommended approach.

Craig.

Hi Craig,

I appreciate your help.

Interposer boards don't have any additional signal conditioning - what is

the main reasons for an interposer board over wiring two connectors? Is it

based on connection and routing.

Kind regards,

Les
