Hi

I'm using the Ez-kit BF527, chip revision 0.0 and I'm developing a project in which the USB interface has been used.

The project is running without any errors under Debug and Release modes. But, when I generate a loader file to boot from flah memory the usb device is not detected by the host. The host show a message: that was impossible detect a ID descriptor from USB device and so, it not close a conexion.

Below I am describing the configurations enabled in my project:

External memory SDRAM - 32MB;

Cache Instruction;

Boot mode: Flash/PROM;

Boot format: Intel hex, but I have been tried the bin format, too ;

Output width: 16-bit;

Anything optmization is enabled;

System heap: L1 2KB;

System stack: L1 2KB;

User heap: L1 8KB;

So far, I have tested load the "bulk_loopback_app_bf527" available in the path: \...Analog Devices\...\Examples... but unfortunatelly the USB device is not detected by host.

Note:

I am using VisualDSP++ 5.0, update 9, but I have tryed the updates 7.

The problem is not in load file (I think) because I created a simple project to blink leds and it is running when the target is started.

So, I would appreciate any suggestions to the possible cause and a possible solution for this issue.

I thank everyone in advance.

Hi,

Please include the init code while generating the loader file. The default one is available in the VDSP installation path:

..\Analog Devices\VisualDSP 5.0\Blackfin\ldr

You can use the default one "ezkitBF527_initcode_ROM-V00.dxe" available in ..\Analog Devices\VisualDSP 5.0\Blackfin\ldr

and give a try. If it doesn't help, I will test here and get back.

Unfortunatelly no version of "ezkitBF527_initcode" could be loaded... the Device Programmer always show this message:

"Error: There was a problem with one or more required expressions in the driver. Please make sure the following expressions are present and try again:

"AFP_BreakReady" Error: Driver load failed."

So, I am using other driver to load my programs into the target, as you can see in attached, it was dowloaded from web site: "blackfin.uclinux.org/gf/.../484/.../BF527EzFlashDriver_M29W320EB.dxe"

I tried also, install again the VisualDSP++5.0, but the error persists.

Best Regards.

Hi,

I believe the reason you are encountering the "AFP_BreakReady Error: Driver load failed" error is because you are trying to load the ezkitBF527_initcode.dxe as a driver file in the Flash Programmer. Rather than loading a Flash Programmer Interface Application for the Flash Programmer Utility.

The ezkitBF527_initcode file, located in "...\Blackfin\ldr\" is not a Flash Programmer Driver, it is a Boot Kernel which is intended to be included into the Loader Boot Stream. This DXE should be specified as your Init Code to your main application under Project Options: Load.

As you are probably already aware we do provide example Flash Programmer Drivers for the BF527 EZ-KIT Lite, which can be found in "...\Blackfin\Examples\ADSP-BF527 EZ-KIT Lite\Flash Programmer\."

Please note that the Flash Programmer Interface Applications provided for our EZ-KIT Lites are flash-specific. If you are using a custom board with a different flash to that of the EZ-KIT you will need to modify this driver (or create one from scratch) that is appropriate for your hardware.

For more information, I recommend you take a look at the example and the Flash Programmer API in VisualDSP++ under 'Help'->'Contents'->'Emulator Tools'->'Flash Programmer'.

Regards,
Colin.

Hi Ericles,

I quickly tested on a 0.0 si rev and everything worked as expected. I've attached the Load Options which shows to include the init code (used the default one) while generating the .ldr file. For your quick reference, I've attached the .ldr as well, so that you can simply invoke the Flash Programmer utility to load this .ldr into the flash and test the application. Let me know how this goes.

Best Regards,

Guru

Hi Colin.

I thank you for your answer.

So, really the provided example, Flash Programmer Drivers for the BF527 EZ-KIT Lite is running perfectly. But, when bulk_loopback_app_bf527 is loaded in the flash memory, unfortunatelly the example is not running in auto boot mode.

Please, could you to try load the example provided by Analog Devices (..\..\Blackfin\Examples\ADSP-BF527 EZ-KIT Lite\Drivers\usb\bulk_loopback_app) in flash memory running in auto boot mode and report to me if it will run, because in my BF527 EZ-KIT Lite it is not possible, yet.

Note: The loader file configuration is the follow:

Release mode;

Boot Mode: Flash/PROM;

Output Width: 16-bit

No optimization is enabled;

SW = 1;

In my mind the procedure is correct, because I load another program and it runs.

I thank you in advance.

Hi Guru,

I thank you for your answer.

Now, selecting the adequate initialization file the bulk_loopback_app_bf527 available by Analog Devices is running in auto boot mode. So, based on this examples, my next step will be modify my code to my hardware.

Best Regards.
