Thread Summary

The user seeks advice on designing an Active Noise Control (ANC) product to reduce external noise from electronic devices. The support engineer recommends the Blackfin line of DSPs for ANC applications and provides links to product selection tables and evaluation kits. The engineer also suggests reviewing system reference designs for cost estimates and technical parameters, emphasizing that the choice between DSP and ASP depends on specific requirements, with DSP generally being the preferred option unless custom analog processing is needed.

Dear forums; I am currently designing an Active Noise control products that reduce annoying unwanted noise outside a noisy electronics equipment (i.e a fridge , air conditioning system ,hair dryer and etc) and would like to know anyone could help me with some of the question below:- 1) Which is the best range of AD DSP products that I can choose from? 2) Is it using an ASP(analog signal processor) better than DSP for ANC ? 3) Is there any developement kit out there where I can make purchase for my evaluation purpose? 4) Are there any system reference design kit which I can refer to? 5) How much does it cost to build a prototype unit of an ANC device ? Please advice. Thankyou in advance. Sincerely; ~Cklau~

Hello Cklau,

I'm very sorry for the late response to your question.

1) With regards to selecting a DSP; without knowing more about your application, I'd point you towards the Blackfin line of products:

http://www.analog.com/en/embedded-processing-dsp/blackfin/processors/index.html

And here is a product selection table:

http://www.analog.com/en/embedded-processing-dsp/blackfin/processors/selection-tables/Blackfin_Selection_Table/resources/fca.html

2) With regards to using a DSP versus an ASP, I would point you to this article, which discusses tradeoffs between signal processing in the analog and digital domain. Generally, I'd say that unless you have some specific custom requirement, you want to go with a DSP:

http://www.analog.com/library/analogDialogue/archives/31-1/DSP.html

3) Analog Devices has many development kits, one for each of the processor families you saw in the processor selection table. Our Blackfin DSP evaluation kits are located here:

http://www.analog.com/en/embedded-processing-dsp/Blackfin/processors/Blackfin_evaluation_kits/fca.html

4) We do have system reference designs, which are linked to from the first link in my reply.

5) This really depends on what your audio requirements are; ie, which audio codec you choose (sample rate, resolution, SNR, number of channels, etc). Other than that, you'd have the DSP and supporting circuits, such as memory and power. You can get an estimate on parts from the BOMs (bills of material) in the reference designs and ez-kit manuals.

Regards,

TomA
