I can't get SafeLoad to work on 1701.
i'm running an ESP32.
I can write and read parameter memory, so I know my code is not complete garbage. :-)
I just need to get rid of the pops!
Is there an example Arduino sketch.... anywhere?

Split off this question from another thread and changed the name.

You actually are asking two questions.

1) Cannot get Safeload to work

2) Have Pops in the audio

For #1) For Safeload, there are posts on the forum on this. Here are links to some posts.

(+) Implementing Safeload Writes on the ADAU1701 - Documents - SigmaDSP Processors and SigmaStudio Development Tool - EngineerZone (analog.com)

Here is another one:

For the second issue,

I guess you need to define when are are getting the pops? What is going on when you get a pop? There may be an easy fix but we just need more information. Uploading your project might also be helpful.

See if this helps (it's working for me) https://github.com/m0n5t3r/sigmadsp/blob/1701-support/sigmadsp/hardware/adau1701.py#L91

Basically:
* write the address and the data in the SA and SD register pair (the parameter value needs to be converted to the 5.23 format, even for supposedly boolean variables like a 1/0 - that was the thing that stumped me for a while); make extra sure to write 5 bytes to the data register, see the datasheet

* set the IST bit in the control register to trigger the safeload
