Thread Summary

The user is unable to hear audio through headphones on an ADAU1467 evaluation kit. The final answer provides a basic audio routing project for the eval board, emphasizing the need for a microphone preamp and line-level signals. Accompanying answers clarify that the 3.5mm jack on the eval board is not suitable for mic input without a preamp and suggest starting with simpler projects to understand audio processing basics.

Hi, there I am noob here

I just bought a ADAU1467 evaluation kit and tried running examples which are given in sigma studio, but I am not able hear anything in the headphones.

My setup is shown in picture below

I have one collor mic and Headphones attached to evaluation kit.

Please help me aslo to lean how to use this evaluation kit.

Edit Notes
I split off this question to a new thread along with the responses. It was not related to the post it was originally posted to. Dave T

The On Board AD1937 codec and its interface Buffer Circuit is NOT a Mic Pre-amp

You will need to provide line level, and the board outputs line level, not really suitable as headphone driver.

The devkit user manual is quite detailed on configuring the Board

Ok, thank you so much for the help and I am working on a protype project where I have to make headphones to filter different frequencies and listen desired one, so could you please what shoild i need to do all this.

I am learning and want to explore in this more but i haven't find any productive

Hello Rajbir,

I also want to add to Brettcoupe's great response. The microphone you are using is probably not wired correctly for the 3.5mm jack on the eval board. A 3.5mm jack can be used for many types of signals with many ways to wire up to the jack. On the eval board they are wired for stereo line level, not mono mic with power being applied for the microphone. So you will need a preamp of some sort.

Your other question about the prototype. The post you originally posted on is close to what you might be needing to do.

There are other posts you can find if you search the forum. Here is another recent one:

I do think I need to comment that this is a bit of a difficult topic and requires a lot of knowledge of audio and acoustics then the resulting programs for the SigmaDSP will be more complicated. I think you need to learn to walk before running. I would start with a simple project of getting sound into and out of the DSP and then start learning about filters and limiters and many other things to get up to speed on how to do the project you are asking about.

If you need something quick then find a 3rd party developer to develop the application for you.

SigmaDSP is a great platform for learning about digital audio and DSP processing and about Audio in general. I suggest you start with simple projects. You will find less frustration and the process will be more enjoyable. This is how I learned to program using SigmaStudio but becoming really good at it takes time. I was fortunate that I already knew a lot about audio and signal processing and electronics and microcontroller programming. But it still took me a while and some time.

Thank you for the help, as you suggested I tried to get the sound out of thr Eval, so i just plugged my phone with aux cable and listen the sound on the headphones.

So now I am planning if I play music on two Inputs and listen on the out and want to control the sound of either input then which things should I learn first to do that.

Hello Rajbir,

Could you please refer the attached project? It has some basic audio routing and some basic controls.

If you want to control something specific, then please give us some more information on that.

In the attached project, you can use all the audio input and output ports of the Eval board.

If you have further clarification then kindly revert us.

Hello Harish, I have tested this and also made some examples with different ADI algorithms, but I want to use mic input and listen to that and reduce the noise and Does it has preamp inbuit or I have to use external.

I am using mic which has 3.5mm jack..

Please help how to do this and what should I learn to this.

Hello Rajbir,

Both Brettcoup and myself commented earlier in this thread that you will need a preamplifier for the microphone.

I did a quick search on Amazon for one and I think it will be difficult to buy one off the shelf. You may have to put together a preamp on a breadboard for your initial testing.

You will also need to know the pinout of your 3.5mm jack. Is it just a mic or is there a mono headphone speaker as well? So you will need to know how the jack is wired.

Cold anyone suggest me which pre-amp and mic would be suitable for ANC in headphones.
