HI team.

So I bought Adau1452 custom board from China, I am sure this board is common for now.

Most of the function is normal.

selfboot is also normal.

No problem so far.

But, I want to do the SPI delay thing, and unfortunately this board got no more slot for another SPI device.

The creator suggest me to remove the SPI EEPROM and put the SPI RAM there, well, that's doable for me.

my question is that can I replace the SPI EEPROM with I2C EEPROM?

I have not done swapping the SPI chip yet. fiddling with SMD is no easy matter to me.

the schematic is the same as posted on this thread here ez.analog.com/.../adau-1452-masterspi-not-working

Hello Julius,

Yes, you can replace the SPI EEPROM with SPI RAM. Check that the pinout will be compatible but I think that should not be difficult. I have done it here in the lab as well.

Your question about replacing the SPI EEPROM with an I2C EEPROM is an unusual question based on the earlier sentences.

You can only run the master port as SPI or I2C but not both. If you simply want to change to an I2C and not have SPI RAM, then you can do that but you will have to add pull-up resistors and tie the address lines to zero. So there would be some modifications required for the eval board.

You can attach a SPI RAM chip and connect it to another SPI latch pin. Then tell the software to use that other latch. You can do that with the SPI RAM but not with the SPI EEPROM. The DSP will only selfboot using the main SPI latch.

Hi Dave,

I intended to use I2C EEPROM for booting and SPI ram for delay. So it is not possible for this chip? that's not a good news.

It seems that the designer did not put case like this in consideration. Well, He did supply board here for me to learn so I will not complain about it.

The said designer told me to use microcontroller to boot the chip if I want to use SPI RAM.

Sadly, I have no idea where to find example.

I am a slow learner on this matter.

I read sigma studio wiki and I have no idea what am I reading.

I found this tutorial for ADAU1701 https://daumemo.com/controlling-dsp-volume-and-parameters-in-software-external-hardware-and-with-an-mcu/

and somehow my adau1701 can not self boot. So I have not tried it yet.

Sigma studio helped me a lot on running away from coding.

to think that I have to start coding here . . .
