Hello,

I purchased a Wondom APM2 which uses a ADAU1701 chip. After reading multiple internet posts about the on board ADC and DACs being lack luster, I went ahead and bought an ADC board, two DAC boards, and a USB DAC board. All which are able to be ran in slave mode. My question is, how do I connect the ADC and USB DAC via I2s input, and the two DACs via I2S output? What is the wiring diagram for multiple I2S connections? I am making an active 4 channel amp + DSP. Stereo RCA input and USB digital audio albeit 16 bit. I'll have a step down to 5V from the power supply to supply the APM2 and the PCB boards.

Here are the boards I purchased

Hello thechemist89,

Consult the documentation that Wondom supplies for the pinout of one of the large headers that has the MP pins on it.

You will also need to send the master clock from the Wondom board out to the other boards. The problem you are going to have is that the USB to I2S board will want to be a master for the master clock. So in that case you would want to send master clock to the 1701 but Wondom does not supply schematics so it will be difficult to figure out how to do that. It is not our board so I really cannot help you with that part. What I can say is that the ADAU1701 does not have sample rate converters so the incoming serial port clocks HAVE to be in sync with the master clock. If it is not then the converters mute. Some of our newer DSPs have ASRCs so it makes this all easier but you have the 1701 in hand.

Now back to the ADAU1701 and using the serial ports. Read the datasheet Multipurpose Pins section. It starts on page 45 and it explains how all that works. Table 64 will show you where the serial port functions are assigned to certain MP pins. You connect the clocks to the clocks and then the first two channels on SDATA0 and the rest on 1,2 &3. That will be the 8 channels of audio coming into the serial port.

Then you have to decide who will be the master for the clocks. You also will have to jumper MP4 to MP10 and jumper MP5 to MP11.

Thanks Dav for your reply. The description for the USB to I2S board says the board can be ran as a slave board, would everything else apply?
