I've found the ADAU1701 to be an extremely capable entry-level chip to get things done in SigmaStudio, so much so that I am planning to use it in a commercial product.

In my current project, I use a particular grouping "circuit" of cells over and over (dozens of uses in one project), and coincidentally come right up to the operations/sample limit of 1024.

I would like to find someone to build a compiled cell so I can easily re-use my module repeatedly, and save operations at the same time. Also, within this module I would like to be able to do all calculations in double-precision, an option a user does not have at all, using SigmaStudio primitives.

I saw Base10Labs mentioned in a post by AD, so I wrote them a couple of weeks ago but got no response. Are there other options?

Thank you in advance!

David

Hello David R,

You will run into problems if you are exactly at 1024. I would be glad to look at your project to see if there are more efficient ways to do what you need. Send me a PM with your project.

I have heard from others that Base10Labs did not respond. I guess I need to follow up with them to see why this is the case. For the moment let me see if I can help you.

Then you mentioned everything in double precision. Which calculations are you referring to? Usually it is not needed. The most important place is for filters and you have library cells that are double precision. In this core using DP everywhere would really blow up the program size. If you migrate over to the newer Sigma300 cores, the ADAU1452 and ADAU1467 families, the core is double precision by design. Then there are a lot more instructions available as well.

Send me a message and I will see if I can help.

Thanks for the reply, Dave. I'm really happy with the power available in the ADAU1701. I have an ADAU1466 that I'm using for another project, so I'm aware that the lesser chip is, truly, lesser.

Basically, there are no full-featured VCF cells available in the SigmaStudio library, and what I'm doing uses them (dynamically-controlled, variable frequency first-order low-pass), along with other lowpass (attack, release timing) filters whose coefficients can be conditionally set to infinite (useful for interrupting, "gating" the release, to prevent gain change), controlled by other dynamic conditions, another feature not available in the filters in the stock cell library.

I can do all these things with simple low-pass filters I create using primitives (two multiplies, an addition, a subtraction and a feedback delay), and they work *really* great, but I get the feeling that my designs aren't as efficient as they could be, and in the case of those operating directly upon audio (only two in this project), I wonder if double-precision wouldn't ensure higher quality.

If you have more questions, I'll be glad to send along my project to you in a PM.
