PCM to PDM conversion
Hi,
I bought an Evaluation board based out of ADAU1772. As it was mentioned in other blog that it can be used for converting PCM to PDM, my question is there is CLKOUT for PDM output stream. Is there a way that we can feed the CLOCK in from other audio interface?
Thanks,
Haresh E.L.

Hello Haresh E.L.
I am with you on this one but the answer is no, we cannot be a clock slave for a PDM output. I really wish the part did that but none of our parts that can produce PDM output can do this. I have run into this road block before so I understand the frustration.
All of our PDM input devices require that it sends the clock to the PDM output device yet our parts cannot do that. The designers have their reasons and I have yet to find a work-around. If you find one please post it.

Hello Dave,
Similar issue, but would like to do low level mono input to PDM. Is there such a product?
Hello FrankV007,
All the parts I am about to mention are all designed for similar applications so they are similar. They all have a PDM output but they all require that they are the clock master not the PDM input. So they are meant to drive an amplifier.
ADAU1772
ADAU1777
ADAU1787
ADAU1797
ADAU1788 should also have a PDM output.
So you can take the ADC and route it directly to the PDM modulator or use the DSP cores to do some processing before sending it off.
I do not think we have a pure ADC to PDM chip especially one that can be a clock slave. It is strange because all the digital mics do that!
