Hello,

I am new to ADAU1452 DSP and SSM3582 Amplifier, I would like to design a circuit with with ADAU1452 DSP and SSM3582 Amp and program it by using SigmaStudio but I am confusing for the wiring in between DSP and Amplifier. It will be very helpful if any one can help me for wiring of DSP and Amplifier.

Thank you in advance!

Regards

Gajanan

Hi Borkar,

I am moving this thread to the SigmaDSP Processors & SigmaStudio Dev. Tool forum. Someone there should be able to assist you better.

Thanks,
Paul

Hello Gajanan,

You have to use the master control port to program this amplifier chip from the DSP. Please find the block diagram below for the hardware connection between the DSP and the amplifier.

I2C protocol is used to program this amplifier from DSP's master control port. You have to attach a sequence file in the master control port in order to program that external chip. It's kind of easy to create that sequence file. Just drag and drop that amplifier into the sigma studio workplace and compile it. Then copy the instructions/commands to the sequencer window and create the xml file. Please follow this link to know how to create a sequence file.

To create sequence file- ADAU1452 Master Control Port

To know about master control port - https://wiki.analog.com/resources/tools-software/sigmastudio/toolbox/MasterControlPort/MasterControlPortIO

Hello Harish,

Thanks for your guidance and sorry for very late reply, I have samall doubt in above block diagram, you have connected SS_M pin of DSP to ground through 10k resistor but this is the common pin will be used for Selfboot EEPROMs SS pin as well and there 10K resistor is recommended in between SS pin of EEPROM and vdd(3.3v). In this case it will become voltage divider and SS_M will be always at 3.3/2 = 1.65V. will it not cause any issue?

Thanks

Gajanan

Hello Gajanan,

I didn't know that you were using a self-boot feature since you didn't mention it before. The master control port will run either in SPI or I2C mode but not both.

Are you using our eval board? If it is, then a SPI EEPROM is already connected in the master control port.

Harish

Hello Harish,

Yes right now I am using your eval board for experimenting but I want to design my PCB with ADAU1452 DSP and For my project I need self boot feature, external SPI flash memory for wav file storage and SSM3582 Amplifier as well, then how do I achieve all of these.

Thanks

Hello Gajanan,

SSM3582 can be programmed only by I2C and if you intend to use SPI EEPROM and SPI flash then it can't be done at the same time. You must make sure that your external chips must stick with either I2C or SPI communication protocol.

You can't use both SPI and I2C at the same time. Either you must use SPI in the master control port or I2C in the master control port. If you want to use both then you have to move to 88 pin parts that is ADAU1463/ADAU1467. where there is a secondary I2C port available. You can use SPI for self-boot and others and I2C for programming external chips.

Harish

Hello Harish,

Thank you for your response, I understand the limitations of ADAU1452, In that case I can go for ADAU1463/67. Can you please help me with pin connection of ADAU1463/67 to SSM3582, self boot EEPROM and extra SPI flash for wav file storage.

Thanks once again for your quick response.

Thanks

Gajanan

Hello Gajanan,

I'm just testing and experimenting with your exact setup to see how it can be done. If it comes out well, then I will share you the pin diagram as well as the project. I will update you with the results as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience.

Hello Gajanan,

Thank you for your patience.

It seems, it's not possible to use both SPI flash and SSM3582 (I2C) at the same time from the master control port after self-booting. What is possible is that, self-booting from an SPI EEPROM and either using SPI flash for wav files or programming amplifier by I2C but not both protocols at the same time.

It would have been possible if class D amp is SPI oriented device. Then we can easily do what you expect i.e., Self-booting from SPI EEPROM and configuring master control port for SPI flash and programming amp by SPI by creating two instances of the master control port. This method can be done in ADAU1452 as well.

The best way would be programming your amp by a uC or to use the same protocol (for flash memory and amplifier programming).

Harish

Hello Harish,

Thanks a lot for your efforts to investigate it in detail, Is there any amplifier which is SPI oriented. another point I would like to ask that is it possible to store small audio file in DSP's SRAM if yes what will be the maximum possible size. If this is possible then I can use I2C for amplifier and SPI for self boot EEPROM

Thanks,

Gajanan

Hello Gajanan,

Unfortunately, All the class D amps available in the sigma studio is I2C oriented. so, for the SPI amps you have to write your own XML file in order to program from sigma studio. Because If it is available in sigma studio, then we could have easily changed the settings in sigma studio and extracted the XML file from SS.

I will have look for any SPI oriented chip in our website and in a meanwhile you can also search the forum and our websites.

There is an internal wav player which uses the DSP's RAM for storing the samples, but it is very limited. Please look at the link here for the wav player info.
