Hello tech minded people,

I've assembled a sound box out of the old record player and now it's programming time. Tech I'm trying to dial is: KABD4100 2x1.1/8 silk dome twitters, 2x4" old Magnavox speakers,4x4"DMA 105-8 Full Range and 2x8 GRS 8FR Full Range speakers. I don't fully understand all the Signa studio stuff and just tried to load one of the preprogrammed sample: Simple Stereo 2 way-Crossover and EQ Project.

As a result what Im getting is that, CH1 and CH2 are main drivers, Twitters also are working fine, CH3 is playing very low bass and CH4 is not responding.

I believe it is my fault or programming issue but lack of expertise doesn't help. Can you please help me navigate an issue?

Hello BorisBasi,

You should probably contact the Dayton Audio/Parts-Express folks for some help on this.

Perhaps someone on the forum can help you but it would be good if you attach your project to the post as well.

Channel 3 is probably the low frequency output of the crossover and it is set to only output low frequencies. That is its job. So you would need to change that.

Channel 4 is unknown without seeing the project and not being able to see if it is wired correctly and that none of the speakers are open? The plugs on the board can be swapped so I would swap them to see if output 4 is not working or the speakers connected to output 4 are not working? Having oscilloscopes or even a basic voltmeter can also help to figure out if you have output.

Your speaker arrangement seems really strange and not really setup for stereo.

It is strange that you only connect up the tweeters to one output rather than one for the left and one for the right? Then you have three different sized speakers that really should be EQ'd differently. Then you should have a three-way crossover not two way but then you would not be able to use this board because you would need six amplifiers.

I guess this is a fun project and not expected to win the quality sound awards. It looks great. I have an old stereo from a grandparent that passed away that I should fix up as well.

So send over your project.

By the way, what part of the USA do you live?

Hello Dave,

Thanks for your thoughts. I was wondering if you can see images I have attached to my original post? I have made a diagram of whatever I did as a wiring and connections and wondering if you were able to see it? Id love to learn more, whatever I have done wrong for sure and thanks for this opportunity.

Indeed it's a passion project ands i'm not trying to win any awards, just trying to make it work for my living room. And I love its look.

As an experiment I have loaded kabd-4100 with Simple Stereo 2 way-Crossover and EQ Project sample again and all the speakers are working well. They are not balanced but making sounds at list. :)

But now I have a new problem. When I play music from apps sound disappears for 2-3 sec and it comes back again. I have checked another devices and they are working without any interruptions when playing music from the same apps.

I think it's a programming thing again. Do you think it can be a board problem? Im confused

Hello Boris,

I think the Class-D amplifiers are going into protection mode and shutting down. This is usually from getting too hot or driving too low of an impedance too loud. I have this happen on the KABD-4100 board that I have when I am trying to crank it up too loud.

Measure the impedance of the drivers to see if it is too low. The amp should be able to drive down to 4 ohms but it is not an ADI amp on those boards so I cannot talk about the specs. It will be able to drive 8 ohms.

Im not sure if they know anything. Guy made me rewire it upsold for more parts (capacitors) and it still does the same.
