Error when configuring the Master Control Ports IO

Thread Summary

The user encountered configuration errors when trying to set up multiple slaves with the ADAU1467 in Sigma Studio. The solution is to use either SPI or I2C, but not both simultaneously, as the communication module cannot switch protocols without reconfiguration. The errors are due to attempting to use both protocols in the startup boot block.

Hello Analog Devices support team.

I am unable to configure multiple "Slaves" with the ADAU1467 in Sigma Studio.

As shown in figure 1, I am receiving 3 errors that are highlighted in red rectangles.
I think the errors are related to slaves 2, 3 and 4, highlighted in the green rectangle.
In figures 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 I highlighted the configuration of each slave.

Could you please tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Best Regards.

Hello cTakahashi,

You are using both the protocols at the same time. You can either use SPI or I2C at a time but not both. If SPI, the software will configure it for SPI and that will use the pins for SPI. Then when it needs to use I2C, the communications module will be reconfigured for I2C and then the I2C outputs of the module are redirected to the MP pins.

So, if you stick to a single protocol at a time, then you wouldn't get these errors. You can't use two different protocols in an order without reconfiguring the port to be either SPI or I2C. Since it's a startup boot block, it programs the slave devices before the actual program begins that is prior to audio processing. You have already asked a question about using both the protocols few days back. I will link you to that post here where Dave explains how the internal communication module is designed.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Harish
