Does SigmaStudio have a real-time simulation capability using a wav file for input and PC sound card output, like in Audio Weaver?
Ive been using Audio Weaver to test out some DSP designs that will ultimately be implemented in ADI hardware.
In Audio Weaver you can run the design and give it an audio file as input and hear the results live. I cant seem to find anything like this in Sigma Studio - is it even possible without real hardware?
I do have some cheap hardware boards but they are old chips not recommended for new designs.

Hello Ferrograph,
You are taking the approach from older and more traditional tools and transitional DSPs and the SigmaDSPs are very different. So there are advantages and disadvantages of course. You MUST have the hardware but that is an advantage and significant difference. The SigmaDSPs are stream based processors and have an easy way to control and "see" what is going on in the DSP program that is difficult to do with traditional block based DSPs. With the SigmaDSPs once you finish all your development the program will run on its own just like it runs under control of SigmaStudio because the program IS running in the DSP. You should watch this series of videos I made that should give you some insight on the power and how to use these DSPs.

What old hardware do you have?
The problem with this stream based architecture is that it is difficult to send it a wav file, capture the output and then analyze it. To do this you really need to use something like the USBstreamer. This converts USB audio in and out to I2S/TDM that the SigmaDSPs can take in and send out.
Like I said, there are advantages and disadvantages.

Hi Dave, Thanks for the super quick response. I will watch the videos.
That all makes sense. Ive got 1701 and 1401 boards. Can I still get representative results?
I think I'll just have to set up a bit of a rig with analyser attached. Its just sometimes I travel and have a lot of time spare and it would be cool to be able to progress a design just on my laptop. Audio Weaver is great for this, trying out parts of a design.
USBstreamer sounds very useful as I can simply play a file back straight into I2S.
Pete.
Hello Ferrograph,
Those are NOT old parts that are not recommended for new designs. What you see that is confusing you is that the ADAU1401 is in last time buy because it was an older version of the part and was an automotive version. We had to make a die change to satisfy the automotive qualification process many years ago and we had to change the part number to ADAU1401A. From your user standpoint it is the same part. The ADAU1701 is the consumer version of the same part. They are both super popular and are still very valid parts. You will see i have several videos about the 1701 on the channel. There are many posts here on EngineerZone about these parts. Just keep in mind that the 1701 and the 1401 are the same functionally. The 1401 eval board is a great board because everything is available on that board!
The ADAU1701 MINIZ eval board is such a great board. So small. I travel with it all the time and I have actually used it while sitting in a seat on a plane! The 1401 board is a bit more to travel with for sure. You need the power supply and it is larger.
The USBStreamer will be handy for the 1401 board but not so much for the 1701 board because the serial input port is not available on the board. Actually, I wonder if you have the large 1701 eval board? We did make one a long time ago.
Anyhow, you are setup well! Go have some fun with it!

Thanks again Dave.
Ive had the boards a while. Thanks for the explanation on the 1401/1701. I do also see 1701 says production. My bad, not sure why I thought they were not for new designs.
The boards are AliExpress ones Im afraid, but very favourable cost wise. I don't have a tidy USBi though so maybe if I sort that the 1701 board will be good to travel with its pretty small and powers from USB.
