Qudro signal to headphones mixing
Hello!
Sigma Studio has a block for converting 5.1 to stereo for headphones. I consider 5.1 to be redundant and design devices for Quadro (4.0).
System components: some USB-I2S transport, ADAU1452, AD1938 (for output to power amplifier), ADAUU1761 (for output to headphones and ADC input).
Please tell me, is my understanding of routing 4.0 to stereo correct or is there a more correct solution?

Hello OctopusDev,
You are using the linear mixers which is not wrong and they work fine but use more instructions than are sometimes needed.
If you are just adding the two signals and never need to adjust the level difference between the two then no point in using these blocks.
There are two ways that are better.
The first is a simple adder that adds the two signals.
The only problem with that is if there are correlated signals at full volume the result will be greater than 0dBFS going out to the serial port. So to guard against that we have the Merger block that sums the two channels and then drops it by 6dB to prevent the clipping from happening. It is a little more efficient because the -6dB is always there and the program does not have to look up the gain factor. It is hard coded.
So here are the two different ways I am talking about:
The merger block is located under Mixers-->Single Control-->No Slew
