AudioSignalProcessing Question
Feb 11, 2025 00:00

Dear community,

I am using ADAU1787 in order to implement a feedforward ANC in ducts. My microphone distances is around 1.5meters, so lets say 4ms delay. I am using ADAU1787 because of its small delay, however when I started to implement the program, some bugs are found. Readback parameter blocks does not work, T peregrine connections crash the program, etc. So I am wondering if there is another DSP that could arrange low latency while keeping more stable and confidence SigmaStudio blocks for example ADAU1452, ADAu1462, or whatever.

I have seen there is an adaptive FxLMS block implemented on adau1452 and there is evaluation board with 4 analog inputs an 8 analog ouptus.

Could you suggest some DSPs that could arrange such a low latency (1ms)? Also PGA or AGC are plus for the application.

Thank you in advance.

Hello AudioSignalProcessing

I understand your frustrations and I have been pushing for a better solution. The ADAU1452/1467 family of boards are using the AD1938 codec and that is rather old technology and has a lot of latency. It will be difficult to get it below 1ms.

So I suggest you look into using the ADAU1452/1467 parts with the ADAU1372 codec. It is a low latency codec. It has four inputs with PGAs and two DAC outputs. It has sample rate converters on the serial ports which is a bit of a problem. I know the ADAU1777 is a similar part and you can bypass the ASRCs. I could look into it to see if the 1372 sample rate converters could be bypassed. Then if you run the system at 192kHz that will help to keep the latency down.

If you migrate over to the Sigma300 cores (1452) you will gain so much in MIPS that you should have plenty of instructions to setup an AGC within the core.

Hello DaveThib ,

Thank you for the answer. Ok so in the case of using ADAU1452/1467 eval boards, as they are using AD1938 which implies almost 0.5 ms in ADC decimation filter and 0.5 ms (48kHz) in DAC interpolation filter is difficult to have less than 1ms.

Is there any evalboard using ADAU1452 with ADAU1372? or it should be developped by myself? As we are testing the ANC algorithms right now we want to have evalboards already built. After algorithm design process will be finished, we will see to develop our own system (in that case we can check for ADAU1372).

So as our main goal is to reduce noise in ducts, we can separate the two microphones in order to have more latency than the DSP plus secondary path itself. In this case....I would like to know what is the maximum latency we can reach with ADAU1452 and AD1938. Or could you give some formula in order to calculate by myself? I guess it depends on the Fs and number of cells... As I am more acoustic engineer I have some lack information on DSPs calculations.

Thanks in advance and best regards,

Sergio.
