Linux driver
Looking for a Linux driver for ADAU1467. Can't find on https://wiki.analog.com/resources/tools-software/linux-drivers-all. Google searches haven't helped. IDK whether all audio drivers are ALSA but I could use a driver that works with ALSA or maybe one that is standalone. How do I find drivers? Does one exist for this device?

Hello,
Unfortunately, we don't have a Linux driver for the ADAU1467. We might have support in SigmaStudio.
I will move this thread to SigmaDSP Processors & SigmaStudio Dev. Tool. Someone from there should be able to help you further.
Kind regards,
Stanca
Thanks.
IDK what SigmaStudio is. But I guess I need to learn. Tried to install it, but install fails saying cannot create directories in my documents dir. I worked around that by creating all the dirs it fails on (a bunch of them). But, then it fails to create a file and IDK how to work around that. The installer is broken! It's hard to use a tool if it won't install.
Further I find this forum frustrating. Somehow I managed to post a question once, but now I can't find a way to post another. I see no button to post/add.
Hello scb,
There are certainly things that frustrate me as well and the EngineerZone support team has been great to try hard to improve the experience and they have done some great work.
Up in the corner you click the "NEW" button here:
Then select ask a question. The frustrating thing for me is it still searches and you have to click to actually start a new post.
Next, on to SigmaStudio.
I have had zero comments from people who cannot install it so something is up here that we need to investigate.
What version of Windows are you using?
What version of SigmaStudio are you trying to install?
We are in a transition period at the moment. There is the older SigmaStudio Rev 4.7 that has been around for a decade or so. Then there is SigmaStudio+ which is a new version and it does support the ADAU1467. Which one were you trying to install?
By the way, what are you trying to do with the ADAU1467? I assume you have a product in mind? What does the product do?

There is no new button or ask a question in qa button. As far as large green buttons there is a "leave group" button.
I am installing on Windows 11. I think I was installing SigmaStudio Rev 4.7. Someone mentioned SigmaStudio so that's that I tried to install. If SigmaStudio+ replaces SigmaStudio, that is something I did not know nor would I say is obvious from the naming or any hints that I saw.
So far my experience with this community site and AD tools is poor.
Hello scb,
I have alerted the support team to this post to see what is going on? There is something different with either where you are or your setup or your browser? Nobody else is having this experience.
Regarding SigmaStudio Rev 4.7 or SigmaStudio + Rev 2.3 it is a work in progress. Unless you are doing designs using A2B networks I would stay with the older SigmaStudio 4.7 for the time being until SS+ is more mature. It is getting close and we are working hard to get it ready.

Hello scb
I asked the helpful and friendly EngineerZone support team and they did their tricks and said you should be all set now and the "New" button should appear on your screen. Let me know if it is not and let me know what browser you are using?
Thanks,
Dave T
Thanks. I have a new button! As to why it wasn't working: I excel at having weird problems. It's my superpower. But I am using latest chrome on win11 and that seems pretty mainstream to me.
SS4.7 does not install, but at this point I don't need it. It's unknown whether I will. Honestly, IDK what the tool does ;) IDK if I'll need to write a driver. IDK whether I would need SS to write one if I do. So many IDKs.
At least I have a New button
After a some time I am back to working with the ADAU1467. I have had no luck figuring out how to use it
You asked about the product. It's a speaker. The DSP is on an existing board. We're building a daughter board for it. So, we're stuck with the 1467. We have to get it to work.
I installed SigmaStudio+ 2.3.0 3. I have no idea how to get it to do something useful. My guess is that it isn't going to help me. It does have a SigmaDSP called EVAL-ADAU1467Z, but I think that's an eval kit. I'm working with the chip.
I have no idea how to get the hardware to work. Not good.
Hello scb,
I will try to help as much as I can.
Firstly, I would suggest you use SS 4.7. As Dave said, unless you are doing something with A2B and all, it's better stay with SS for now, until SS+ is more mature.
I can see you are using an Eval board which will ease things up a little regarding the input and outputs and other hardware related stuffs.
I have attached a project which includes basic crossover, EQ and limiting circuits. You can give your analog input in the jack named 'IN1' and the outputs are at OUT1, OUT2, OUT3. You can run this project on your eval board right away with input and outputs.
Below is Dave's YouTube channel link which will help you understand SigmaDSP processors better.

You can use the wiki page here to refer to the functionalities of the blocks or you can highlight the block in SS and press F1 to get to the wiki page.
Here is the project that you can try with your Eval board.

I do not have an eval kit. I am working on a new board that is a daughter board for a base/carrier board on which is the ADAU1467. The 1467 has been in use on the base board for some time. The daughter board is new and must interface with the 1467.
I watched a few of Dave's videos. I still do not understand what SigmaStudio does. If it's for programming the 1467, for developing firmware to run on the 1467, the it's not what I need. I will not be programming the 1467. My job is to output audio to it.
I asked about a driver for the 1467. I mean code that runs on the controller that helps me interface with the 1467. But the term 'driver' is fuzzy. I don't care what it's called. I just need to figure out how to output audio data to the 1467. Maybe that is not something you support directly. If you don't please tell me so that I stop wasting your time. Thanks.
Hello scb,
I didn't quite understand what you want to do with the ADAU1467.

You said, you want to output audio to 1467, but what is next?
You want the 1467 to pass thru the audio without doing any processing? or you want the 1467 receive audio and route it to different chips from 1467?
In any case, you MUST program the ADAU1467 for it to work. There is a booting sequence for the DSP to run, sigma studio takes care of that.
So, if you want to use the ADAU1467, you must tell the 1467 what should it do, if it's an algorithm or audio pass thru program or GPIO config, everything needs programming. Here programming means not designing an audio algorithm, you must configure bunch of registers like PLL, Core, serial port etc. which is simply called as booting sequence (set of registers will be programmed in an order with needed delay between some registers. For ex, delay for the PLL to lock etc.) with the program data (signal flow that you require to design).
Sigma studio is GUI based software, you can drag and drop modules/algorithms and connect them and download them into your hardware, modules/algorithms will be converted into code and sent to the DSP by sigma studio, so you don't need to code anything. Sigma studio takes care of all code related stuffs; all you have to do is design the signal flow graphically and download them into DSP.
Once you designed your program flow in sigma studio, then you can export the system files and integrate it with your controller and make the controller boot the DSP (without sigma studio), but you must use sigma studio at least once to design your signal flow.
Feel free to reach out if you need any clarification.

Harish
The 1467 is already programmed. It is on a board that has been in use (production) for some time (years I think). That board is shipped with a daughter board that outputs the audio data to it. I am developing a new daughter board that outputs audio in the same way ... to the 1467. I just send it audio data. That's it. I _think_ SigmaStudio is for programming the 1467. I don't need to do that. That's already done ... a long time ago. I need to program the controller on the daughter board. This is why I was asking for a driver. I didn't ask about programming the 1467. I think we have been talking past each other.
