SC598 linux waiting for /dev/mmcblk0p1...
I am trying to get Linux on to my EV-SOM-SC598 rev E and EV-SOMCRR-EZKIT via an SD card. I followed the instruction on the git repository pages https://github.com/analogdevicesinc/lnxdsp-adi-meta/wiki/Setting-Up-Your-Host-PC and https://github.com/analogdevicesinc/lnxdsp-adi-meta/wiki/Getting-Started-with-ADSP%E2%80%90SC598-(Linux-for-ADSP%E2%80%90SC5xx-Processors-3.1.2) , but when I try to boot into Linux, the system gets stuck at [2.797992] Waiting for /dev/mmcblk0p1... I compiled everything for the full version of the SDK, any place in the instructions where it said -minimal was replaced with -full. After I get the boot loader on, are the switches on the EV-SOM-SC598 supposed to be turned back on or what instruction is missing? Any help would greatly be appreciated

can anyone help? I have tried multiple times rebuilding the full version, re flashing the u-boot both with the original version without the sd card line both compiled and not compiled. when compiled, no matter what it gets stuck with this load out

Hi Daniel,
Your kernel log seems to show the following:
[ 2.327301] mmc0: new high speed MMC card at address 0001
[ 2.333436] mmcblk0: mmc0:0001 IS008G 7.28 GiB
[ 2.340996] mmcblk0boot0: mmc0:0001 IS008G 4.00 MiB
[ 2.348062] mmcblk0boot1: mmc0:0001 IS008G 4.00 MiB
[ 2.354819] mmcblk0rpmb: mmc0:0001 IS008G 4.00 MiB, chardev (244:0)
while the kernel is waiting for a partition named mmcblk0p1, as mentioned here:
[ 2.797502] Waiting for /dev/mmcblk0p1...
Which seems to indicate that the boot partition has been incorrectly specified for the kernel to correctly load the partition.
In order to verify this, could you boot via another boot method such as nfs/spiboot and attempt to mount the sdcard partitions in question? If this is indeed the case, could you attempt following these instructions in regards to formatting the SD card and try again: https://github.com/analogdevicesinc/lnxdsp-adi-meta/wiki/Getting-Started-with-ADSP%E2%80%90SC598-(Linux-for-ADSP%E2%80%90SC5xx-Processors-3.1.2)#formatting-the-sd-card . This should generate the correct partition.
If you would like to change the boot partition that you would want to boot into, you can change the following inside u-boot proper:
=> editenv mmcargs
setenv bootargs root=/dev/mmcblk0p1 rw rootfstype=ext4 rootwait earlycon=adi_uart,0x31003000 console=ttySC0,115200 vmalloc=512M
Here, change the argument root=/dev/mmcblk0p1 to the required partition name, i.e, root=/dev/xyz
To add a bit more context, this is what the expected log should look like:
[ 2.290046] mmc0: new high speed MMC card at address 0001
[ 2.296181] mmcblk0: mmc0:0001 IS008G 7.28 GiB
[ 2.303187] mmcblk0: p1
[ 2.306400] mmcblk0boot0: mmc0:0001 IS008G 4.00 MiB
[ 2.313384] mmcblk0boot1: mmc0:0001 IS008G 4.00 MiB
[ 2.320042] mmcblk0rpmb: mmc0:0001 IS008G 4.00 MiB, chardev (244:0)
As you can see, the mmcblk0: p1 is clearly mentioned. Once booted, I can see the following:
root@adsp-sc598-som-ezkit:~# ls /dev/mmcblk0
mmcblk0 mmcblk0boot0 mmcblk0boot1 mmcblk0p1 mmcblk0rpmb
I placed several different SD cards ranging from 4GB to 32GB and lsblk does not even show the disk. I have tried rebooting the board and I get the same results. No SD card seems to be found.
lsblk
NAME MAJ:MIN RM SIZE RO TYPE MOUNTPOINTS
mtdblock0 31:0 0 256K 0 disk
mtdblock1 31:1 0 768K 0 disk
mtdblock2 31:2 0 128K 0 disk
mtdblock3 31:3 0 15M 0 disk
mtdblock4 31:4 0 111.9M 0 disk
mmcblk0 179:0 0 7.3G 0 disk
mmcblk0boot0 179:32 0 4M 1 disk
mmcblk0boot1 179:64 0 4M 1 disk
Is it possible the sd card port on the board is bad?
Hi Daniel,

Has it been formatted following the steps mentioned in the guide? Based on the above, I do not see the partition.
As shown in my log, I would expect a partition to have been created called p1 and show up as /dev/mmcblk0p1.

I do not think the sdcard port is bad since it is visible in the kernel logs.
Hi Utsav,
I have tried everything I can think of, I've recompiled the code, changed SD cards, followed the instructions on how to format the sd card, but now when I attempt to boot via mmcboot with
ADSP_SC598_SDCARD = "1"
I get
run mmcboot
** No partition table - mmc 0 **
Couldn't find partition mmc 0:1
Can't set block device
Wrong Image Format for bootm command
ERROR: can't get kernel image!
and nfsboot does not show any sd card plugged in, even though one is plugged in

Both these indicate that the SD card has probably not been formatted correctly. The u-boot issue seems to indicate that there is no partition table there whatsoever - i.e, probably the device was fully erased and not reformatted.
Could you please share what the partition table looks like after following the SD card formatting steps (from the system where compilation/formatting is taking place)? What are the exact steps that you are doing in order to format/populate the SD card.
I want to ensure that all contents required for a boot are present prior to attempting boot.
Hi Utsav,
I am following the instructions on https://github.com/analogdevicesinc/lnxdsp-adi-meta/wiki/Getting-Started-with-ADSP%E2%80%90SC598-(Linux-for-ADSP%E2%80%90SC5xx-Processors-3.1.2)#formatting-the-sd-card
gparted shows an ext4 and everything appears to be there, but I'm still getting stuck
Hi Daniel,
Can you confirm what the name of the partition is?
The kernel is currently expecting a partition called mmcblk0p1 (see the kernel logs above and the arguments supplied to the kernel for boot in the link below).
In such a case, you need to replace the expected rootfs partition name for mmcargs in u-boot:
Also, it looks like you are using gparted instead of the method mentioned. If not, could you share your logs from the terminal? I would like to confirm that everything being done is one to one. These pictures do not convey the exact steps taken.
Please note that for the first boot, things are configured in a very specific way and they should not be changed unless you have knowledge of what needs to be adjusted everywhere else to accommodate it.
