Hello,
I would like to inquire whether the ADAU1452 supports multichannel audio transmission over SPDIF when encoded using AC3 or DTS formats.

To provide some context, I am currently using the AD2428WD1BZ evaluation board, which integrates the ADAU1452 DSP. While examining the configuration in SigmaStudio 4.7, under the "Hardware Configuration / Register Controls" section, I noticed that the section corresponding to "SPDIF Receiver Decoded Data" appears to be deactivated. Kindly refer to the attached image for clarification.

I would appreciate it if you could help me with the following questions:

Format Support: Does the ADAU1452 natively support the decoding of compressed audio formats such as AC3 (Dolby Digital) or DTS when transmitted over SPDIF?

Feature Activation: If such support exists, how can I enable or activate it within SigmaStudio?

Channel Access in Schematic: Assuming I receive a 5.1 multichannel audio stream over SPDIF and synchronize it using the ASRC block, how can I extract and utilize each of the individual audio channels (6 in total) within the SigmaStudio schematic window?

Licensing Requirements: Are any additional licenses or third-party decoders required to enable support for AC3 or DTS decoding on the ADAU1452?

I would greatly appreciate your guidance on this matter and look forward to your response.

Hello payreza,

This is the register details for incoming SPDIF format.

Multi-channel is not supported in these processors. It only supports stereo SPDIF input and output.

Dear Harishgowtham,

Are you certain that the ADAU1452 does not support AC3 and DTS? According to the official datasheet published by Analog Devices, it is explicitly stated that support for these formats is indicated via Register 0xF602.

www.analog.com/.../ADAU1452_1451_1450.pdf

Please refer to the datasheet provided below for verification.

If this information is incorrect, it should be clarified in the datasheet. Otherwise, I would appreciate your guidance on how to enable or utilize AC3 and DTS support on the ADAU1452.

Thank you.

Hello payreza,

I didn't say it doesn't support AC3 or DTS. These DSPs do support them, just to show you that I shared the register page where you can see a bit is allocated to read and know the incoming audio format.

But multi-channel is not supported in these processors, it will only support stereo.

Regards,

Harish
