using an external amp
Hello. Pretty much what the title says. I have 2 KABD 4100 boards cascaded and I'm looking for a way to use and external amp to power my sub or a way to put all 400 watts from one board to my sub or even 200 watts. My configuration is explained below. I bought a Russound ADP-1.2 speaker level to line level board. When hooking it up and turning on the music it was apparent the system did not like this. Its difficult to describe any other way. Bass "feedback" and choppy signal going to my floor speakers is the best I can describe it. I read its possible to configure the board in a PBTL mode but havent found good directions on how to go about it nor have I found good directions on how to configure a board to 2.0 though I did read it was possible. I do have a PCM5102MK board with RCA outs but the 6 pin socket configuration doesnt match the KABD config and the offset is 2.4mm where KABD is 2.0 and I only have those jumpers. I bought it because I was told in another forum that that is what I needed
Master Board in 2 way config . Speakers are MTM with the mids wired in parallel
J13 left channel
J14 right channel
Slave Board powers sub only
J13 in mono mode

Hello diyhfi,
It is difficult for me to advise how to setup these boards to be one large 400W amp since we did not design this board and the board uses a Class-D amp from a different semiconductor manufacturer. The only thing on this board I know best and can support is the ADAU1701 DSP.
Your description of the sound you were hearing somewhat sounds like it could be digital data stream getting lots of errors and not being properly transmitted.
In the user manual it does warn about this but does not explain what it would sound like. Here is the passage in the manual:
Note: Due to the sensitivity of I2S audio signals, the master and slave KABD-4100 must be placed very close together, for example they will always need to be in the same cabinet. They cannot be separated beyond the length of the 6-pin to 6-pin cable that comes in the KABD-SPF cable pack.
This was from the cascading section of the manual.
Besides cable length being a problem there also can be issues with ground loops between boards, power supplies and the computer when you have the programmer attached. I do not see this often but it is possible.
Your connections to an external board with any digital signals is really susceptible to issues with cable length and ground loops between the boards.
You will need to ask Dayton Audio or the maker of the amp chips to see if all four amps could be run in parallel to get mono 400W out.
You are doing some tricky things so it will take some work to get this rock solid.

Hey Dave. Thanks for the reply. I guess the question I was trying to ask was...Is there something I could put in place using Sigma to help facilitate using an external amp. Some sort of filter or algorithm. I was also hoping someone had attempted this before and had a quick fix. I have no formal education in this field or a field even close to this if that hasn't become apparent so everything I have learned has come from asking questions and pouring over forums and YouTube. Your tutorials on YouTube taught me a great deal actually. Thank you for taking the time to reply. I've since got the subwoofer sounding better playing around with the different blocks and settings within Sigma. It's an amazing tool. I'll take it over designing passive crossovers any day
