How to make a 10 band audio equalizer controlled by 10 analog pot, using an adau1701 and two CD4051
Hi, I want to create a 10-band audio equalizer (31Hz-16kHz) using the ADAU1701 and controlling it with 10 slide potentiometers.
I want to read the potentiometer readings using the same DSP without an external microcontroller.
I know the ADAU1701 only has 4 analog inputs, so I need a pair of multiplexers to read the 10 potentiometer voltages.
For this, I plan to use two CD4051 (8 ch to 1 multiplexor), which I want to control with the same DSP to alternate the readings.
My goal is to get about 10 updates per second. I have a good idea of how to create the equalizer in Sigma Studio, but I don't know how to implement the potentiometer readings.
Can anyone help me with any idea?

Hello nff,
I have to answer this quickly due to the weather! I could lose power any moment.
I have attached a project where I used a single AUXADC pot to control eight different levels. It uses an external MUX
So this is some of the things you will have to do.
I may have another project which is closer to what you need to do but I have to ask someone else in the company that I think built something like you are describing.
So I apologize for the partial answer but this should get you started.
There are also some other posts which comes close to what you are trying to do.

Hi Dave, did your electricity hold up? I lost mine, with the temp. in my home down to 48 F. before power was restored. How much snow did you get?
hello Dave, i hope you are doing well, thank you very much for your help, and for your videos in youtube, those were my introduction to this world. i will take a look and post some advance in a few days.
best regards

Hello Bob,
I did lose power twice, not too long after I posted the above response and then later in the day but both times it lasted like three minutes! I did not even start to head out to the garage to fire up the generator! So I was lucky. Also, the snow totals reduced quickly on the north side of the storm. Boston got like 24" but I got a hair under 10" here in Southern New Hampshire.
I know in your neck of the woods it was much worse snow and wind. So no surprise you had it rough!

well, i make a prototype that should work, using the idea from 5826.ADAU1701 AUXADC External MUX Example 8 to 1.dspproj, and using 10 selectables index filters, with 10 filter each, 2dB steps. this two ideas works well by themself, but when i tried to put everything on a single program it send an error of MIPS, about 1500 MIPS and at 48Khz and i just have about 1000 MIPS. so i think is impossible to do this without an external microcontroler.
i will have to do it with the help of an arduino. if you have some other idea to reduce the mips they are welcome!!!
thanks for your help Dave, i hope you are doing OK.

there i put the link of 2 version of my program. one is complete with the 10 band, but it need 1425 MIPS, and the other i reduce the number of bands to 5 so it can compile and run, just to probe that the idea works. if somebody can see it and give some advice to reduce the number of MIPS i will be very happy. thank you.
