The user is seeking advice on where to wire a power switch for a Dayton Audio KABD250 amp to avoid pops and noises. The support engineer suggests wiring the switch to the AC supply rather than the DC output, as the DSP typically stabilizes before powering on. The user is advised to consult the user guide for further details.

I am programming a Dayton Audio KABD250 amp. With the optional back panel kit, they include a power switch. I'd like to know where in the circuit it should be wired in to avoid pops and noises, etc. Should it be wired into the board, the DC part of the power supply, or in the AC supply?

Hello OldSpeakerDude,

I have done a fair amount of work with these boards and I do not recall the back panel kit. So I do not know how it is wired or what the switch is connected to?

There is a connector on the KADB250 board that is for external switches but not for power switching.

So I am guessing you can wire this switch where you like? Again, I do not know the specifications of the switch to see if it is acceptable for the actual AC power? Personally, I would rather shut off the entire AC power supply rather than just the DC output.

Regarding pops and noises. Usually the power has become stable long before the DSP gets power, self-boots then unmutes the audio. So I would be surprised if you had some clicks or pops.

Shutting it off is another story... It is good to mute then shut off the power.

I assume you have downloaded the user guide?
