Can the EVAL-ADAU1761Z board be used as just an ADC/DAC for an external processor?

Hello, I am creating an audio effects processor for a University project where all processing is required to be performed within an FPGA. I have access to an EVAL-ADAU1761Z board so my question is whether it is possible to output the raw digital data from the ADC to an external processor, and input the digital audio data to the DAC on this board, effectively bypassing the onboard DSP?

Thanks.

Hello kwig,

Yes, you can. I do it all the time.

You have to set the serial input and output routing to go directly from the ADC to the serial port, and then the serial port to the DACs. It is done in SigmaStudio by going to the DSP Registers tab on the Hardware Configuration page. Here are some screenshots:

Go to this tab:

Change these registers to the settings as shown:

If the serial data happens to be multi-channel TDM then you can select which pair of data goes to the DAC and which pair the ADC data gets stuffed into. Kind of handy.

They are registers R58 and R59. Then are at address 0x40F2 and 0x40F3.
