I'm connecting a USB audio device that outputs I2S (the Texas Instruments PCM2707C) to the ADAU1701 (the evaluation board). I have a simple SigmaStudio project that routes directly. I connect my headphones, and sound is there.

However, when I unplug the USB cable from the USBi and power the ADAU1701 board with a 5V power supply (through connector J2), sound goes away. I have written the compiled binary to E2PROM, and in fact, it does work even if I do not have SigmaStudio open.

The LED (I guess D3) does light up when I plug the power supply to J2.

Anything else I need to do? Unplug the header that comes from the USBi? Jumpers J3, J1?

Thanks,
Carlos

Hello Carlos,

Just as you suspected, you need to remove the USBi plug from the J8 header on your eval board. This header connects I2C lines as well as power (one way, toward the eval board), ground and reset lines, as shown below. When running with power into J2, the un-powered USBi is holding your ADAU1701 in reset -- so disconnecting it allows your project to run.

As an experiment I programmed a simple project (just a tone oscillator going out to DACs) and after compiling to EEPROM, it ran from the 5V wall supply only after removing the USBi from J8.
