ADAU 1452 digital input methods?
Hi Everyone
I am working on the ADAU 1452 evaluation board.
How do I get more than two channels of digital input to this board for signal processing? what kind of connection available? I am wondering if optical input will take ADAT 8 channels?
Thanks

Hello newphantom,
J2 and J3 are serial input ports that are available. Those two ports can each take in an I2S stereo signal or up to TDM8 for eight channels each. So you need to have a source that can output TDM.
Unfortunately, the optical input is only for SP/DIF signals and cannot do the ADAT optical interface format.
Then if you needed more than 16 you would have to modify the board slightly to gain access to serial ports 0 and 1 that are being used by the on-board Codec. Those two ports can go up to TDM16 but it is difficult to get TDM16 to function properly on an eval board with wires "flown" over from another board. So I would not try faster than TDM8.
The modification is to remove two resistors.

Hi Dave
Thanks for reply, is a ADAT or USB audio to TDM8 i/o interface possible? or any suggestions? I only need up to 8 channels max. I am taking digital audio signals from another audio interface has only output either ADAT or USB.
Thanks
Hello newphantom,
Yes, it is possible but you would have to move over to a Blackfin that has USB and then getting the multi-channel drivers is an issue. I think you might be able to find some USB to TDM converters out there on the internet. I have not tried that search in a while.

Hi Dave
Thanks again. I will have a hunt to see if I can find a converter.
hi dave ,
do you know any chip that can convert ADAT OPTICAL taken from optical emitter/receiver (let's say TOTX(RX)147) to a TDM8 format ?
that would do the same job as AL1401/02 but with one TDM bus out/in instead of 4 x I2S ?
thx in advance,
regards,
