TomY Question

Hi, ADI Support Team

I'd like to confirm how much size can connect SPI Flash in ADAU1452.
I find the following description in the datasheet (Page 41 of Rev.C).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The slave EEPROM has 16- or 24-bit addressing, giving it a total memory size of between 4 kb and 64 Mb.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
From this description, I understand that 64Mbit (8MByte) is limit for ADAU1452.

Is it hardware limitation of ADAU1452?

However, I want to connect more bigger SPI Flash (e.g. 32MByte, 64MByte, etc.).

Do you have any solution for this?

Best regards, TomY

Tom,

Unfortunately, as you note, this is a hardware limitation for addressing a single SPI device. This is enough memory to hold the largest possible program for self-boot plus space for parameters and substantial external delay buffers. I emphasize that this is for a single device because the ADAU1452 supports up to seven SPI slave devices, including external memory, using GPIO pins as additional slave select lines.

What do you want to store that is so large? Is this for sample playback? Can the data be divided across multiple external devices? 64MByte would require eight devices, which isn't possible, but 32MByte can be implemented with four.

Hi, Ken

Thank you for your answer.

I understood it is hardware limitation.

Yes, I want to store many WAV/PCM audio playback files.
So, these audio files can be stored multiple external devices.

Currently, I assume total 20MByte of the audio files, so 32MByte may be enough.
