Interfacing 4 ADCs and 4 DACs with ADAU145X
Hello,
I am starting a new project that will in effect be a 8In 8Out Audio Processor.
Unless there is something new on the horizon with built-in CODEC, I have shortlisted the ADAU145X processor, PCM1860 ADC and PCM5100 DAC to do the job.
I want to interface 4 ADCs and 4 DACs to the ADAU145X processor.
Can I use only one clock pair say LRCLK_IN0 and BCLK_IN0 to clock all the 4 ADCs and similarly LRCLK_OUT0 and BCLK_OUT0 to clock all the 4 DACs or is it mandatory to use the corresponding clock pair with the serial data line?
Kindly let me know if you need any further information from my side to answer my query.
Thanks!!
Hello,
You can certainly clock multiple outputs off of a single clock domain, assuming that the ADAU145x is set to be the clock master. The ADAU145x has a good drive strength capacity, so it should have no issues driving four channels from one clock.
You may want to consider looking at the AD1937/AD1938/AD1939 series for your ADC and DAC needs also. Each of those parts has 4 ADCs and 8 DACs on a single IC.
Best regards,
Tyler
Thank you for your early reply.
The ADAU145X will be the clock master to the external ADCs and the DACs.
Thanks and regards,
Karagir.
Hello Tyler,
I looked at the ADCs, DAC and the CODECs from AD.
I could use the ADAU1962A DAC in standalone mode and use 8 of the 12 channels in SE mode with passive filter.
I could also use 2 x ADAU1978 ADC, also in standalone mode in pseudo differential input mode. Both as SLAVEs.
Kindly clarify for ADAU1978 in standalone mode:
If, ADDR0 = 0, ADDR1 = 0, SDA = 0, SCL = 0, the SDATAOUT2 will output channel 3 and 4?
Thanks!
Hello Karagir,
You are correct; with ADDR0 = 0, SDATAOUT2 will output ADC channels 3 and 4.
Regards,
Tyler
Thanks!
So this will be a project with AD chips!!
I still wish AD come out with a big brother of ADAU1701. ADAU1452 with 8I8O built in CODEC
Hello,
I am going through the pre-release datasheets of ADAU1463/7.
I think I am going to skip development around the ADAU145X and jump to ADAU1463. There are some interesting improvements in hardware, especially after the ADAU170X. e.g the reset pin can be tied- high in self boot. I am sure the latest ones would perform great. I need to study the datasheet carefully to exploit all the features.
So it looks like I'll have to design two boards. One with the processor, a 12-ch DAC and an interface for three 4-CH ADCs and the second, a 4CH ADC.
