Hello everybody! I am happy to be here again, after such long time... Many things have happened and hopefully I can now return to developing a new iteration of my ultrasonic device for visually impaired people. I have just noticed that there is a new processor - ADAU1777, which can digitize really high frequencies and yet has low greediness for power. So basically what I need is to be able to:
1. generate a high frequency (about 100khz) sweep sine wave

2. digitize a high freq analog signal (also about 100khz)

3. multiply the digitized signal by an internally generated sine signal.

Formerly I used adau1701, but it was several years ago, if you guys could let me know if:

1. the new adau1777 can do all those things? Adau1701 had 1024 instructions per sample, how many does adau1777 have?

2. as of today, is there any direct "upgrade" to adau1701, or it is still the best solution for the tasks described above?

Thank you guyz and I am happy to see all of you again

Hello Skfir,

Welcome back! I missed you.

The ADAU1777 is a more advanced cousin of the ADAU1772. Its incredibly low latency makes it ideal for noise-cancelling headphones. However, its toolbox is quite limited compared to other SigmaDSPs. There's a limiter and some filters, but no oscillators or timers, and few math blocks. Also it can handle only 32 instructions, although these count differently than with the -1701 -- for example, a filter uses just two instructions. As you can see, it's quite unlike what you're used to using.

Thus you'll find a number of roadblocks in getting this chip to perform the complex functions of your ADAU1701-based ultrasonic device.

Many of us would love to see a "super-1701," maybe someday...

Best regards,

Bob

Hello Skfir,

The ADAU1777 will do some of what you need but not all.

1) It will not produce a sine wave of any frequency.

2) It will digitize a 100kHz frequency quite well.

3) There is no multiply cell so it cannot multiply two signals.

It is designed to be a really fast Bi-Quad filter engine. So that it does well.

So it can be used as a fast codec and to do some filtering but then you would have to send the data out to another DSP for processing and there lies the issue. All of our other DSPs can run only at 192kHz fs max so 100kHz is above the Nyquist. Then the other issue is that the fastest the serial port can go in the 1777 is 192kHz. So you would not even be able to send it out of the part. So unfortunately, I do not see a solution with any of our SigmaDSP parts. You can inquire to our DSP group that supports the SHARC and Blackfin processors and see if they have any solutions for you.

Thanks,

Dave T
