I propose again an old topic, hoping that with these new indications
is possible to play simple messages with ADAU1701.

Is there an application that can convert a waw files in formats that
I enclose, readable formats through a normal OutputPort of a PIC.
This is the web address: http://www.romanblack.com/picsound.htm

I wonder?

you can insert one of two types of files attached to a specific
EEPROM address and then through SigmaStudio read the address and
make the play of the message via a DAC or a simple OutputPort to
manage as can be seen in the attached file.

I think it's possible but I do not know how to do this.
Anyone have any ideas about.

I think the solution of the problem can be of interest for many
designers because it would avoid burdening a PCB with an additional
IC voicecorder.

Annex There are 2 MSG files obtained with BTC and BTC program that allows you to derive these files

In theory, the answer is yes... but it would be extremely hard and resource consuming, for the following reasons:

- you can't access directly the I2C/SPI port from an ADAU1701 from program space. The I2C/SPI inteface runs as a bootloader, which initializes the RAM from an external EEPROM

- consequentely, the only solution to access an external memory would be to connect it to the GPIO port. Since there is no dedicated hardware for I2C/SPI support on GPIO pins, that means that you need to implement the protocol in software ("bit-banging"). Since the ADAU1701 is a "stream oriented" DSP, you would need to unroll the loop to read each bit in a byte, and it would consume a lot of space in Program RAM just for that (don't forget it's only 1024 instructions long)

- doing the bit-banging from SigmaStudio would be absolutely not optimized (taking even more Program RAM space)

- so finally, if you still want to do this, you would need to have access to SigmaDSP assembly code specification, which is not published by ADI

In conclusion, DSP like ADAU1701 are absolutely not adapted to this task, because they are optimized for signal processing tasks. What you want to do with BTc is specifically something for micro-controllers. And DSP are not micro-controllers at all...

Hello BenKB,
I thought so, patience, will continue to use a recorder chip to play messages.
Thanks for the reply and good year.
