I can see that SigmaStudio has support for several communication channels to communicate with the DSP. Is it possible for us to write our own communication channel and have SigmaStudio use it to communicate with the ADAU1452?

We have a product with an MCU connected to the ADAU1452 DSP through I2C. I can communicate through UDP/IP with the MCU and have it forward data to the ADAU1452 through I2C. It would be great if I could make SigmaStudio use this communication way to read and write registers in the DSP, so we do not have to connect to the DSP with USB.

Hi.

There is possibility to use the SigmaStudio Network Utility for Linux [Analog Devices Wiki], but it won't work with ADAU1452. I read somewhere that it was not planned to be supported.

Once you have connected the uC to the I2C/SPI port of the DSP, you can't use sigma studio directly.

If you don't have a screen connected to the uC, perhaps you can use a serial terminal.

This way you can print register content on your computer (or whatever controls the uC) quite easily.

The simplest way to develop a project which needs a uC is to program the DSP directly from the uC.

So the steps would be:

- Modify the sigmastudio schematic and registers.

- Export the files from sigmastudio

- Modify your uC code

- Compile, program and run your uC (which program and start the DSP)

Best regards,

Simon

This is more or less what we are currently doing. But I was asked to create a GUI tool to allow the audio developers to change the DSP registers in the running product. I can easily do that, but I though it would be better if they could use SigmaStudio as it already has a cool GUI. If SigmaStudio could call a dll or exe, which would when forward the register value to the DSP, it would make it really easy for the DSP guys. But I will just create me own tool instead.

But thank you for answering my question.

HI Ivan:

you could use the TCPIP communication channel to do what you are attempting to do.

Please comment.

Hi,

In sigmastudio, it appears that you have only the following TCP/IP modules available:

And none could be connected to an ADAU1452!

There are discussions about it here:

Use ADAU1452 in embedded system - remote control via SigmaStudio (TCP/IP?)

and here:

ADAU1452 and Network utility for linux..

The latter one contain this message:

Am I missing something?

Best regards,

Simon

I cannot use the TCPIP communication channel as it is. We have a WiFi module connected to the MCU. I am not able to make any changes to the protocol used by the WiFi module. Instead I was hoping that I could create a plugin that could make SigmaStudio use the same protocol used in the WiFi module.
