TomY Question

Hello,

I have a question about Compiler Output result of ADAU1452.

For example, I can see the Compiler Output result as the attachment file.

>PM RAM used: 00000 (of 8192)

Why is this value zero?

What kind of case is this value set to?

>Program Length: 00083 71 instructions (32bit: 59 64bit: 12)

>Total PM used: 00083 (of 8192)

What is the difference between "PM RAM used" and "Program Length" and "Total PM used"?

Is it same meaning?

Best regards,

TomY

Hi, ADI Support Team

Do you have any update about this matter?

If you can answer as soon as possible, it will be helpful for me.

Thanks in advance.

It seems very likely that "PM RAM" refers to Program Memory being used for data as opposed to code. I've never seen it nonzero for any of our adau145x projects either, nor do I expect it really:

On smaller DSPs with only one data memory bus it is not unusual to use program memory for coefficients (for a dot product in the typical case) while simultaneously fetching samples from data memory. The adau145x however has two 128-bit wide data buses in addition to its program memory bus, allowing it to fetch the operands for a 4-term dot product as well as the next instruction all at once. This allows it to perform such a product every cycle, sustained.

Given this architecture, I doubt it makes sense to use PM for data operands, assuming the core is even able to (it might be strictly Harvard). Probably it just appears in the compiler output for consistency with other DSPs.
