Set Reset Edge Triggered Latch
Hi . I Need a method to Set a LATCH to "0" when Signal A goes below an adjustable threshold.
and only reset it to "1" when a Different signal Goes above a Different threshold.
The problem I appear to be having is that i need Edge triggering.
The purpose is to make a detector that has fast release to "Hold - freeze" the output level of a slow attack detector. and do not release this "hold" until the level of the slow attack detector has become equal to the "frozen" level.
Another way I maybe able to solve this is to have a detector A that has fast release But has the Same SLOW Attack speed, as detector B's Decay speed.
I hope this makes sense?
Thanks
Brett
Hello Brett,
A One Shot Fall w/Reset can provide the edge triggering you're looking for. The example circuit shown below makes use of this block. I'm a bit fuzzy on the effect you're looking for, so this circuit may not may not achieve all of it. However, its individual sections test out fine.
Best regards,
Bob
Hi KJBob
I had created nearly the exact same project, But used a Logic Nand gate to invert the Onshot Fall Block
For some reason mine did not work. as expected.
However I have uncovered a undesired behavior in this concept.
If there is a LOUD burst then it the input goes below the threshold. Then it set the "frozen" level as expected at this high amount.
But if then if the signal returns at a level just a little higher than the freeze threshold point, then freeze wont open until its super loud again.
What I really desire is that freeze to decay(by the slow avg rate) once the threshold is reached.
I attempted feedback into the slow avg detector when the gate was frozen, but unlike a peak detector, I found that the input signal does not match the output signal level. As such the slow avg detector just faded away when it was feedback with its own output.
You have probably gathered. This is all to create a AVG rather that a peak compressor with Gate freeze.
As I need this to setup a "target" level to a following "Peak limiter"
Thanks

Hello Brett,
You're right about the logic gates, I avoid them in favor of other methods. Another approach to your application appears below -- adjust the LP filter for the desired speed during normal level changes, and the gain for the slow decay when below threshold. The volume control sets a relative threshold compared to the present peak (how many dB off peak before the slow decay kicks in).
Best regards,
Bob
Hi
Sorry I have not responded before now.
I ended up getting a reasonable result with a combination of a few of your ideas.
Although its quite instruction heavy, when using on a Multiband Compressor and Multiband Limiter as each dynamics block needs its own set of threshold filters -detectors- readbacks.
What I would really like to see is a PIN on the existing Dynamics blocks that can be set to freeze the current gain. It maybe as simple as setting the existing "HOLD" parameter to infinity when the Pin is set to 1.
Then you can leave the method to set the pin up to the user. Then all the multiple dynamics block pins could be tied together from a single user defined Hold threshold logic section.
Do you think this is something that AD would consider. I am sure I am not the only one needing to Freeze the Dynamics gain.
when below a threshold level.
Thanks

Hi Brett:
There are some special cells in SigmaStudio that allow users to send data to known parameters (from other cells) that are not exposed in the GUI or not exposed as an input pin. This type of voltage control input cells can be used to modify at run-time specific parameters based on the signal condition. It's a bit of a workaround and requires experimentation but this will do exactly what you are looking for.
Please comment

Hi Miguel
Ok you have my attention
Would you care to elaborate what the "Special cells" are that can send Parameters to Other Cells like the safeload registers can?
And is it even possible to set the dynamics "Hold" value to Infinity anyway.
Thanks
Brett
