All,

I've been using the ADAU1701 processor in a couple different setups, all are based on the FreeDSP layout. I have recently been getting intermittent (say 90% of the time) "Comm Error" messages when I upload my firmware. At first I thought this was due to windows 8. But then i was able to get a string of successful downloads. I can't pin it down to any certain order of operations, and my USB devices says the USBi is working Okay.

Could this be the USBi device hardware? Or is this a hiccup with the Windows 8 incompatibility? I would try on a win 7 machine but the HD died on that and I've already invested in a windows 8 machine.

Suggestions?

Hello Steve,

On the outside chance it matters, does your new PC have a USB 2.0 port? If so, use it rather than USB 3.0. Although it's not supposed to make any difference, I have experienced some intermittent trouble using the USBi with a USB 3.0 port. I can't say if the OS is important, only that my laptop went from Windows 7 to Win 10 without any SigmaStudio issues.

Best regards,

Bob

Have you had any luck with downgrading the port? Using a 3.0 port to a 2.0 dock to your USBi?

My work laptop and home laptop only have 3.0 ports. So I'm a bit SOL there. It consistently gives me a "comm device disconnected" error. And to be honest, the port downgrade didn't see to do much for me last night either.

Hello Steve,

Sorry you're experiencing this issue. Previously, only the USB 2.0 port on my old Win 7 laptop played with the USBi -- its USB 3.0 ports gave all sorts of trouble. Recently, however, I got a new laptop which came with Windows 10 and only USB 3.0 ports. The USBi works fine with this one. Based upon this experience it appears that USB 3.0 in itself is not an issue - it seems to be something more specific to individual implementations in various PCs and driver installations. Some additional insight on USBi problems is available at:

Also in case it makes a difference, my USBi is revision 1.3 -- others may have different troubles.

Hello Steve,

Is your program really large?

Do you have a lot of readback cells and meters that are turned on to continuous read? This causes lots of traffic over USB and could cause issues. Most likely it is a driver issue but I thought I would ask about these details.
